Game 9: Lions @ Packers Thread

The journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step.

Stafford played well yesterday. Rodgers played poorly. I never thought I'd say this about a Detroit vs. Green Bay game where Detroit actually won.......but the better QB got the W Sunday.

the new streak is GB is now 0-3 after Ditka wore the GB sweater in that commercial.

The fact our idiot coach doesn't find out about this until AFTER the game is comical. Guy is just terrible at managing the clock.

Yes but in all fairness how is he supposed to notice things like that when he's in the middle of another long blank stare

MacCarthy should have used at least one of his timeouts before the two minute warning. I don't know why they just don't have a clock management guy as a paid coach. They have a guy for everything on the team. Why not that?

especially with how frequently teams are losing or potentially losing because of poor clock management.

most frustrating TO to me are the ones taken to prevent a 5 yard delay of game penalty. just fucking take the penalty man. plenty of plays in the playbook to call for the extra yards. I get that it makes it harder to pick up a 1st down, but weighing that vs the value of having that TO at the end of a half, even the 1st half, it isn't even close. QBs who look at that play clock and think "damn, gotta call a TO" should instead think "damn...ok guys, let's huddle back up, get the next play called and get it snapped". they even can gain many seconds by doing that, just tell the guys to huddle back up (and when this is the normal reaction, the guys on the O will instantly understand and rehuddle). The OC has time to recognize what has happened, figure out what play to run next and get it into the huddle. All of that can happen while the refs are announcing the penalty, marking it off, spotting the ball, and restarting the play clock. The O can be to the line of scrimmage with plenty of time for the next snap, and might even be able to run a play before the D gets fully set.

That's another thing that frustrates me. It seems like the O is often waiting for the D to get set. FUCKING SNAP THE BALL BEFORE THE D GETS SET! Especially on run plays, the OL gets an extra step on the D, which can increase their leverage and drive guys off the line. The D isn't anticipating it and cannot react fast enough. Drives me crazy watching QBs looking at the D and being like "ok, are you guys set now? great, now we can snap it." I get that they are trying to figure out what the D is going to be doing, but by snapping it before the D is set, they don't have time to actually run their play...at least not as effectively as when they are all set and just waiting for the snap. blitzes are delayed, stunts are delayed...the O has the advantage when snapping before the D is set.

They talk about this almost daily on Valenti's show, having a "late game guru." If they had one for Michigan vs Michigan State, Mich would have won that game. Instead of running up the gut for those first three plays, run a sweep to the perimeter, have Rudock run backwards for 5 yards and just keep going. Instead of each play taking like 3, 4 seconds like they did, have each play go for 8, 9 seconds. Would have left 0 on the clock instead of having to punt.

Hey, 5 extra yards for a first down is a big deal when you consider their offensive strategy. A 3 yard pass on 3rd and 8 has a much better chance than a 3 yard pass on 3rd and 13.

What a great game. The Lions dominated that game and Prater and Calvin let them back in.

Too bad Lawson and Wilson got hurt after showing great things.

Lions can beat division opponents, they need to prove they can beat the 7 remaining weak teams on the schedule and sweeping the Packers.

And the pick was on Lance Moore. He admitted it.

Play Abdul Quddus all the time. But probably since the Packers weren't a running threat. We'll see Ihedigbo to try to stop Murray
