Game 9: Lions @ Packers Thread

Stafford 1-0 vs +.500 teams on the road!

The journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step.

Stafford played well yesterday. Rodgers played poorly. I never thought I'd say this about a Detroit vs. Green Bay game where Detroit actually won.......but the better QB got the W Sunday.

Or neither QB played well, stafford just was a little less worse. I mean 3 of the 4 scores for the Lions came on drives of 22 yards, 22 yards and 1 yard. 45 yards resulted in 66% of our points scored.

You can not like Stafford as much as you like......but he played pretty well. Made plays when he had to. Late in the game when we needed a good drive to put us up two scores......he led us down the field for a TD (fuckin Prater).

Stafford's earlier pick in the redzone was brutal. The last TD drive he made plays though.

He was alright. Did some good things, some bad. Nothing unusual from him.

It was an ugly game all around. A lot of ugly football yesterday!

I said neither played well. You said Stafford played pretty well. Pretty much the same thing. As i take it, pretty well means almost well.
Stafford did show some ability on the 3rd and 9 to calvin. Then Tate finally showed up and made a great play on the 40+ yard scamper after the dump off. The prior 50+ minutes was nothing special for the QB or the team.

A win in GB is all kinds of unusual.......from ANY Detroit QB.

Did he do it single handedly......no......but he made enough plays, especially late, to win that game.......and that's not typical for him.

He played fine. Defense and the long KR were top two dogs yesterday. Unfortunately, I can't comment on those last 5 minutes because the networked switched to KC-Denver. Fools.

Basically, they did everything humanly possible to lose it, but I think Green Bay just wanted to lose it a little bit more!

I still hold to what was clear at the start of the year when it looked possible that this could be the year the streak ended.

Lions coming off BYE.
GB coming off 2 straight tough road games. Whether they won or lost those games, they were going to take a toll. The fact they lost both of those I think compounded this part.
Weather was decent, meaning it wasn't a blizzard or below freezing. It could have been snowing or a freezing rain, but at the beginning of the year looking at the schedule, it just seemed like it had potential to be an ok day weather wise.

What was not foreseen was the refs not impacting the game. Who would have thought the Lions wouldn't get screwed by homecooking by the refs??? Also, that the Lions would win after entering the game with a 1-7 record while GB was once again at the top of the division? Definitely figured the Lions would have to be 6-2 at worst to have a shot...for them to do it while entering with 1-7 record...I never would have bet they would win...er, correction...that GB would lose...because, let's be honest, the Packers were very much responsible for losing that game. Even that last FG attempt, I thought certain the Packers would make that kick...yet the kicker completely shanked it so badly that everyone thought it was blocked until replay showed it was a total shank.

OMG...was checking on Packers kicker explanation of what happened and came across the Packers.com message board. So fucking sweet reading some of those comments. One guy says "I live iin AZ and was watching the game with 2 very level headed people and none of us can recall a game where the refs were this bad."

OMG...tears!...my that's just too fucking funny!!! OMG...ah...ah....ahhhhhHAHAHAHAHAHA....I...I...I can't stop laughing! Packer fans blaming the refs???!!!???? Been a long time since I've read a message board post crack me up to that degree. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!....literal tears streaming down my face!

And some of you guys think I have no sense of humor. ;P

LMFAO!!! Took me forever to type and correct this post...still laughing...OMG...!!!!

Lions coming off bye didn't seem to help us in years past. It was just a guess like when Cheeno said we'd win.

Refs don't screw us anymore than anyone else, that's an old and tired excuse. In fact the refs missed an easily seen tripping penalty that was not called on our DL. I forget who it was. So maybe it was a true loss ;-)

I'm sorry but if that statement cracked you up maybe you don't have a sense of humor. :hehe:

the only thing that impressed me yesterday was the defense getting to the ball. I remember like 4 or 5 plays in the second half that as soon as someone from GB caught a ball they got blasted. That said coverage was just mediocre....I honestly felt like I was watching Stafford play when GB had the ball. No pressure dirt balls an missing wide open wrs all day....was weird from AR especially since the pressure we had early all but disappeared in the 2nd half. Any win on the road vs GB is good....but that was the weirdest fucking game I ever watched lol. Both teams were awful.

Ps....ill also mention the oline had a decent day. After a real rough start they figured it out and Stafford had a lot of time when we went on his 2nd half completions streak.
