Game 94 Tigers vs. blue jays July 19, 2019

THE SATURDAY SURVEY,
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers another way for readers to weigh in on a relevant topic. So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our baseball-lovin? peeps.

As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons ( 4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

The Tigers have won only 6 games (through Thursday?s game) since June 5th and are tied with the Orioles for fewest wins (29) in MLB.

With just over 10 more weeks left in the season, where do you expect them to finish in the loss column?

Fewer than the 98 losses of 2017 and 2018.

98 losses again.

Just over 100.

Somewhere between 110 and 119.

Breaking the record of 43-119 they set in 2003.

Setting a new MLB record with over 120 losses.

Vote

I wouldn?t describe 106-109 losses as being just over 100.

That said, I vote in the 100-109 range.

They?re on a pace now to lose 111, but it would seem that even the Tigers can?t be bad enough to sustain the pace they?ve been playing at recently - it would seem that even the Tigers would have to come back up to earth a little bit.

It would seem that you aren't taking into account the possibility that Greene, perhaps Boyd, maybe Castellanos and less likely Jimenez could be traded still. If that happens, or in part, or just one is gone, that will have a negative effect upon their W/L record to varying degrees. If only Boyd and Greene depart, then that might necessitate bringing up Skubal or Manning to pitch in Boyd's place, all of the others who they have spot-started were as bad as Zimmersuck. If they are loathe to early-start the major league clocks of any of their stud prospects, which is very possible, then Carpenter or Soto takes Boyd's place, or they could stretch RP Hardy out to start like last season, or at least until roster expansion occurs in September.

The Tigers are also going to have to shutdown the rookie Turnbull for the season, maybe sooner than later b/c he already has been on the IL, albeit for a short time, due to arm fatigue.

I wasn?t taking anything into account except it would seem unlikely that the only way for them to go isn?t up.

Now I could turn out to be wrong but if I am, I didn?t put a lot of money on my prediction.

DET is 29-64 (93 games). They have 69 games to play. They are 17-52 in their last 69 games. How much negative impact when you only have 17 wins over the last 69 games?

11-44 .200 WPCT in their last 55 games. 14-17 wins is all you can expect between now and the end of the year, regardless of who gets traded. This is not a .500 team, where losing players has an impact. This is a terrible team. DET has only won once in Boyd's last 8 starts and that is when they scored 11 runs. They have won twice in his last 12 starts. You really think trading Boyd will change much? I don't.

Same can be said for Castellanos. Removing his outfield defense might actually be a plus. And Greene might make 1 win difference over the remainder of the season.

uhh...b/c he posted that the team would improve somewhat, while I maintained that they may not, especially if certain players are traded. But that posted, I have not and never would bet money for or against any Detroit-based team, though.
