Wow. A division title sure brings out some fairweather, baseball ignorant fans doesn't it??

1 yr, $1 million contract for a BACKUP catcher and people are against it, instead suggesting Inge, V Mart, etc.

Go away. Please.

Nah, i'll stick around...

Yeah, we all fucking know Laird is a BACKUP. Nobody with half a brain thinks otherwise. The problem is, why bring back trash? For what? Because he knows the pitching staff? Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit...lol.

Go back to the ESPN boards when Laird was a Tiger. Yeah, he was full-time catcher at the time and he was beyond brutal. But the members on that board wanted him dead, including his children. Pray to God that Avila stays healthy because if he misses any significant time whatsoever, this board will be suicidal and wish death upon Laird once again. Dumb signing IMO. Who cares if he's on "the cheap". He's a bag of garbage....

So were all the other free agent catchers who WERE ONLY GOING TO PLAY 30-40 GAMES ... Who cares if they spend a million on GL.... DD can now concentrate on the other positions that really matter. I can't believe people arte pissed about this... Back-ups unless you get extremely lucky are normally just that... Back-ups... Everyone should stop fretting over this.

Not really "pissed off", buddy. Just a little confused on why DD would want to rehash the good ol' days with Laird once again. He was fn hot garbage as a Tiger a couple years back.

Since you're obviously slow-witted and not getting the point, let me explain in simpler language.

Laird was garbage as a hitter.

He was fantastic behind the plate.

He's not going to get a ton of AB's anyways, probably far less than Inge and Jackson who can't hit much better if at all, but now we have 2 good defensive catchers, it's an improvement.

And he's CHEAP.

Laird for a million is a very solid signing. I'm really happy with it, and I think since he is so solid defensively, Leyland will be more likely to give Avila a day off every week.

it is a good deal, but then it struck me that $1 million is considered cheap for a baseball contract...i wish i had a million lol.

DID ANYONE EVEN CONSIDER HE ALREADY KNOWS THE PITCHING STAFF......WHAT A BUNCH OF BABIES...........at 1 million dollars and he already knows the staff.............Also this could mean Larussa could take a front office job...which could lead to fucking Dave Duncan becoming our pitching coach!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great move....and there is a huge connection here

People are devaluing Laird? My only regret was that he was not on the team last season. Hindsight evaluation on my part, but imagine a healthy Avila in the playoffs. If might have made the difference between a game 6 ALCS loss and a World Series title.

Good move, knows the pitching staff. Should only get about 100 AB's and late inning replacement. I just hope Avila did not suffer any career threatening injuries.

Seems like a pretty giant leap to make after signing a guy who was their backup catcher for one season.

I agree, half the staff from 2010 is gone.

I despise LOLairrrrd, for a million or a dollar.

Dombrowski had better make some other "good" moves with the alleged money many are touting that he saves from signing that clown. I hoped that he would never get near the plate ever again for the Tigers and made it a point to bid him a less than fond goodbye on the old ESPN board, and now he is gonna be back??

He's a BACKUP and nothing more. He'll probably start around 30-40gms and hopefully boost Avila's production in the process. There is no such thing as a bad 1yr/$1m deal in baseball anymore.

Okay then, I am going to take note of everyone who posted here that they don't mind him returning, then pitches a bitch when Laird pops out, grounds out or Ks next season in any AB, regardless of the situation..they just better zip it...haha!!

Laird's signing does not hurt this team.

what does it help thou, other than another body behind the plate, he doesn't hit and he isn't even considered a good Catcher.like someone said earlier, it isn't the mill. that he's gonna get, it's him period.. he ain't worth a shit and will not add anything productive to the team.

hopefully Avila rips his knee apart in the 1st month , and we'll see the same guys here who love this signing , bash the hall outta Laird when he has to become the #1.

Have a feeling that crusty old Leyland will play Laird more than he would any other backup that the Tigers might have acquired otherwise. Whatever, we will see what else the Tigers brass does or doesn't do this off-season, but IMO, Leyland could pencil in a Sunday afternoon lineup with the roster as it is now that would be pretty damned horrific than ever before, on BOTH offense and defense.

I'm slow-witted because i'm not a Laird supporter? lmfao!! Good job, fuckstick.

Hope and pray Avila doesn't blow a tire or something, goofball, because you'll be crying on here.
