Ebron is very talented, but a questionable fit. Average.

Van Noy seems like a good player, but the trade up was odd. Above average.

Swanson projects as a mediocre athlete who isn't very strong. Dom is old and generally sucks, but I'm not sure Swanson looks like he can step in anytime soon. Below average.

Webster is a situational pass-rusher, and we've done pretty well getting 3rd down DEs lately. Average.

Reid can provide some depth, but won't be asked to do much. Average.

I honestly don't expect Jones to be more than a short term NFL journeyman. Average.

Freese was consistent and we need a kicker. Probably didn't need to use a pick on him, but at least forces him to join us instead of enticing him as a UDFA. Average.

I expect to get one sure starter out of this draft (Van Noy) and probably a high snap pseudo starter (Ebron). The rest I'm not sure are even in the NFL three years from now, but that's pretty average for the draft. I think we could have gotten players that fit better, but the talent where we got it is about what we could have expected from a BPA standpoint. We didn't take anybody that was a great value, but I don't think Mayhew really just blew any of the picks.

Not sure where you're getting your report on Swanson. The kid is a beast who will be our C next year for the next 10+ years. Can even play a little G if needed.

I gave it a B

Ebron - As Tony pointed out, his drop rate in college was eerily similar to Pettidrop's in the pros. I would think that number would get worse in the pros.

Van Noy - I like the pick. One of our biggest needs filled with what seems to be a quality player.

Swanson - Center in waiting. I like replacing Raiola. Not sure I would have picked the same center.

Lawson - Possibly a good slot CB. Didn't read much about the guy before the draft. Not thrilled with his size.

Webster - I like the pick. Someone who could develop into a starter in a couple years.

Reid - A good depth selection

Jones - A special teamer or 5th receiver. Not a great selection.

Freese - Great pick. Need a long term solution at K. Not sure about his leg strength but is very accurate.

With what you wrote after each pick how'd you end up with a B?

The only pick I truly disliked was the 1st. In the 3rd, I preferred other options. As a ND fan, I like TJ Jones. But for the Lions there were other positions that could have been addressed.

And I'm an easy grader.

Gotcha.

Talking about grades, I had a professor in college on the first day said "no one's getting better than a C". He was right..tough tough grader. Little off topic but I had to share my plight..

Several scouting sites mention his lack of ideal strength. He was also dead last for Olinemen in the bench. He doesn't have super long arms to explain that either. Also, most every site notes his lack of agility/speed. Not a huge deal in the pocket, but means he doesn't cover much ground when pulling or sweeping - not a great athlete (by NFL standards).

He's going to need to be a technically sound player in the NFL, which is fine, but is also something we've been saying about Raiola. Raiola isn't very strong, can't hold at the point of attack or move defenders on his own. Those are a lot of the same criticisms of Swanson. The line was great last year, so maybe that's enough, but I didn't like the pick. I didn't think Swanson was the best player or lineman available at our pick.

I couldn't have explained it better myself. He's alongside Stork IMO and he went a round later if I remember correctly.

Plays too upright which allows for him to lose his balance easily is what I read. That and he plays without leverage too much which isn't good when youre not very strong.

The professor has very little faith in the student body if he can make that proclaimation on the first day. I have always been of the opinion that combined with the student's effort that it was the educator's job to get the student to achieve the highest results. So it wasn't your fault. It was his failure.

That's ok. NFL workout program gets him stronger. Going to be some negatives for sure, but the positives outweigh them.

All American in the SEC, voted team captain twice and has started day 1 as a freshmen. Has a mean nasty disposition and leaves his blood on the field...never takes a play off. I'll take that type of kid all day.

so youre saying we should have taken a back up center in the 1st round too? lol
