Grant Traded for peanuts

Weaver just created enough cap space to double the next closest teams cap space. Trading grant and getting a 1st and not having to take on a bad contract in return is a great deal. Not sure what some of you saw in Grant to think they should've got lottery picks and young players thrown at them for him.

Little rumor going around Portland is we may be interested in Ayton. He?s another player Dame is saying he would like to play with.

This may not mean anything but during the COVID lockdown Dame came out w a music video that had Ayton hanging out w him. That was the only time I?ve seen another NBA player in one of his videos.

Should we reconsider the Grant trade in light of the draft? Without the Grant trade, we don't land Duren. And to be fair, I think it's not that crazy to say Duren was a top 10 talent this year. No disagreement that what we received for Grant was not everything we hoped, but what we turned those "peanuts" into, was very much what we hoped.

We received the following for Grant:
- Milwaukee's 2025 first round draft pick (to 4 protected - and note Giannis is signed through 2025)
- 2nd round pick swap with Portland (landed Gabriel Procida)
- 2nd round picks in 2025 and 2026.

We gave up the following for Duren:
- Milwaukee's 2025 pick
- Taking on 9 million in salary for Kemba Walker (Note that this only works because of the Grant trade exception)

So, here's what we ultimately landed in the Grant trade:
- Jalen Duren (13th pick)
- 10 million in salary cap (Grant minus Walker)
- 2 second round picks

We can argue about how much we got in the first trade, but I think overall we got everything we could have hoped out of a Grant trade. Duren is a top talent (maybe even 7th overall), we saved money, and we got some extra 2nds. I understand if you don't want to consider the trades as connected, but the final result feels pretty good. I'm not even the biggest fan of Duren, but this all seems so much better played than originally believed.

I think it's less of what they saw in Grant and more of what the 'experts' continually pumped out on Twitter and other media as what was rumored to be offered for Grant. The 'experts' were way off as well.

Speaking of rumors...

By taking on Kemba Walker's contract and not that of Gordon Hayward, Tory Weaver has effectively lessened the chance that Charlotte could/would match and offer sheet to Miles Bridges.

Im assuming we keep Walkers full cap hit if we drop him and he signs elsewhere? Not sure how NBA works.

yes...if there is a buyout the amount of the buyout will count against the Pistons cap. If they cut him they owe him the total amount.
