WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers
Several days ago, the Detroit Tigers signed Jack Flaherty to a 2-year contract. He can opt out after the 2025 season.
This now changes the dynamics of the starting rotation and leaves only 1 slot open. The starting rotation will be Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Alex Cobb and Reese Olson.
For the remaining spot, there are almost a dozen pitchers who will be competing but only a handful who have the best chances of earning that last slot.
These players have the best chance:
JACKSON JOBE – He has only pitched 4 innings so far at the MLB level. Will the Tigers be hesitant to throw him in too early given what happened to Spencer Torkelson when he was promoted prematurely?
KENTA MAEDA – His salary will earn him every chance to have a come back year after his winter routine was overhauled by Chris Fetter and Robin Lund.
MATT MANNING – He started 5 games last year before being sent down for the rest of the season. A. J. Hinch said there were a number of things he needed to address.
CASEY MIZE – He missed 2 full years due to arm and back surgeries. He did not pitch well last year and was left off the playoff roster. He had the rotation’s highest WHIP and the Tigers rescinded their team option on his 2025 salary.
KEIDER MONTERO – In his first year at the MLB level, his stats matched or exceeded Casey Mize’s. He threw a complete game shut-out and throws 95 MPH, however there are issues with control at times.
Who would be
the best starting pitcher to get the nod?
Which pitcher would be the best choice for filling the final spot in the rotation?
1. Jackson Jobe
2. Kenta Maeda
3. Matt Manning
4. Casey Mize
5. Keider Montero
