Other winners:

Catcher: Johnny Bench
1b: Albert Pujols
2b: Lou Whitaker
3b: Mike Schmidt
SS: Cal Ripken
LF: Rickey Henderson
CF: Ken Griffey Jr.
RHP: Pedro Martinez
LHP: Randy Johnson
REL: Rollie Fingers
Closer: Mariano Rivera

My quick take:

Andre Dawson: Controversial pick for the HOF for some. But, he was a great fielder and drove in runs. He once said he was not paid to walk...which was true.

Reggie: 563 HR, 73 MVP, 2x WS MVP, 5 championships from 1972-1978 (no accident)

Dave Winfield: Might be the best RF of the 80s. Scary ass hitter!

Larry Walker: Probably doesn't belong with the others. His home/road splits with Colorado call somethings into question.

Tim Salmon: Another guy that probably does not belong on the list, but he's now hall eligible and has not been eliminated

Sammy Sosa: Cheater

Gary Sheffield: Loved Sheff, but tied to steroids.

Ichiro: The dude can play.

Vlad Guerrero: Another scary hitter in his prime. Best bad ball hitter since Yogi.

For some reason, Guerrero is missing. Write him in if you like...

i went for ichiro. if you include his japan numbers, hes haf an amazing career.

Gotta be Sheff for me. He put up tremendous numbers for his entire career, he could play several positions well, was fast on the bases, and could hit for power and average.

Dawson was an excellent fielder with a very good arm. Pretty good hitter, played with some knee problems. Saw him at fenway years ago first row next to on deck circle when he was with the redsox. Very thin and wiry but all muscle.

Always thought Reggie was a mostly one dimensional player with the homeruns, but early on could steal bases. Lots of homeruns which was what he tried to do every swing. Bigger head than Bonds, but the enormous size was to fit his ego. Next to Gibson, Baylor, and Winfield, and Frank Robinson, he might have gone into second base to break up a dp harder than most others. Negatives were not good defensively and 2597 strikeouts.

Winfield was a complete player 5 tool, his fielding and throwing was among the best not only in right but also center and left. He missed one year iirc with back surgery, so it isn't out of the realm he could have wound up with 500 hr's. I think he was drafted by 3 different sports, and with his size and swing he hit rockets for line drives.

True about Walker and the coors field effect but still pretty good away splits .865 ops excellent fielder and arm.

Salmon was a pretty good player, just doesn't measure up with the rest here.

Yeah Sosa will always be linked to the steroids, too bad.

Mr. Bat Wiggle Sheffield, good hitter, and a year with the Tigers was on pace for a 40/40 before running into Polanco, he was never the same. Sometimes what he said, sounded like he was inserting his foot in his mouth, but the media was also bias.

Ichiro is a great hitter and imo should be ranked after kaline and Clemente for playing rightfield and throwing arm with strength AND accuracy. Only thing missing is power.

Vlad for being one of the three best bad ball hitters with Yogi and Clemente, is a great hitter, when younger could steal and run.

Tough call for me Winfield/Ichiro/Reggie/Walker/Vlad tossup leaning to that rank closely.

Ichiro Suzuki.

Had he started his career in MLB, this poll would not be needed.

The only place he is lacking is in the home run department, but he makes up for not having the typical negative stats associated with a homerun hitter.

Tough one with no clear-cut winner, but I like Winfield. He had a strong throwing arm in right field and could hit for power and average (4 seasons of .308 or higher among his 22 years). Had Ichiro started his career here in the bigs this would not even be a contest, but he didn't. Too bad, because he would have had a shot at eclipsing Pete Rose's all-time hits records. Ichiro has zero power, and that is a big part of the game for almost all truly great players, so my vote is for Winfield.

Yeah well if you transferred my HS numbers to MLB the poll wouldn't be needed as well.

That analogy only works if you can put up the same numbers in the MLB as you did in HS Mitch.

well I would have picked vlad. He was a great hitter, and one of my favorite players. The dude had a cannon.

But I went ichiro. Mariners fan plus he can do it all.

I am going with Reggie. Challenged Maris in 69, the ASG HR, 5 titles, 2x WS MVP, 73 AL MVP, Good baserunner with speed (early), 3 HR on 3 pitches in 77 WS, 563 HR, very smart player (see 78 WS), and an ego the size of NYC. He did strikeout too much and his fielding skills went from bad to mediocre to DH.

Career Away

Salmon 114.55 RC/650 .902 OPS

Sheffield 108.93 RC/650 .886 OPS

Walker 105.58 RC/650 .865 OPS

Jackson 102.95 RC/650 .860 OPS

Sosa 99.22 RC/650 .851 OPS

Winfield 98.62 RC/650 .841 OPS

Suzuki 97.96 RC/650 .789 OPS

Dawson 89.30 RC/650 .800 OPS

Ichiro is missing more than HR power. He rarely takes a unintentional walk. If he was a CFer, then I would be all for voting him in. But as a corner OFer, defense, speed and hitting for high average are his only attributes. Which are attributes desired of a CFer, not a corner OFer.
