Greatest RF since 1969

who cares if he doesnt have power? Ichiro excels at just about every other facet of the game. he's already got more than 3700 hits combined, he is a wizard at infield hits and getting on base (.370 career OBP despite a pedestrian 6.2% walk rate), is excellent on the basepaths, and is outstanding in the outfield. whats not to like about him?

Ichiro's claim to fame is getting hits and getting on base, but he's .23 points behind Sheffield in OBP.

Reggie leads Ichiro 6-5. Sheff with 3 and Winfield with 2.

Why do people focus on his Japanese numbers? They aren't comparable. No one strives to play in the Japanese league.

why is satchel paige in the HOF even though he barely played in the majors? they arent comparable. its not like anyone strove to play in the negro leagues.

seriously though, its not like the nippon league is an amateur league. there are plenty of really good players over there. we dont have the monopoly on good players or leagues. the guy is seriously talented, we shouldnt discount half his career just because he played in Japan and not here. in the end, we didnt do that to negro league players, and we shouldnt do it to Japanese players.

That's not the point. Why Is Koufax. Good players is one thing but they dont have near as many so its easier to hit. Yeah we should discount it. MLB son, not Japanese baseball.

their pool of good players is smaller, but it also has fewer teams meaning the talent is more concentrated.

of course theyre not equal, im not trying to make that argument. im just saying that theyre good enough that players numbers there shouldnt be discounted when considering their overall career. ichiro needs less than 300 hits to hit 4000 for his total career, something only pete rose and ty cobb have done. that shouldnt be discounted no matter where he got 1200 of his hits.

You say they're not equal but yet you think they should add to a MLB career? I'm sorry but come on. Why not count the Mexican league then.

we shouldnt add the stats officially, but we shouldnt pretend they never happened. you seem to think we can only do one or the other.

Mitch is right..you'd have a better arguement if you just brought up the amount of MLB hits he has, the time period in which he accomplished them and the age he did it at.

When we're talking about greatest RF since '69 in MLB we can. This isn't a poll about a lifetime achievement award. As a MLB he's pretty darn good.

do you see "in MLB" in any of the thread titles?

now you're being intentionally ridiculous. sometimes i feel like you argue just for the sake of arguing.
