"I was disappointed to hear boos. We're getting ready to go to overtime right there and our crowd is great for us and they support us," Schwartz said. "The team needed a lift right there. We didn't need to feel bad at that point. We just intercepted a ball that got us to overtime. I thought that I was just trying to get our team ready.

"That's tough, the situations when your players are getting booed and you want them fired up. That's what I was trying to do right there."

REALLY? You don't want to have your players feel bad? What do you think Jim Harbaugh or some other good coach would say regarding the booing? Would he say what is in bold or something like this?

"we weren't concerned with the fans booing. We were concentrating on getting our team ready for OT, trying to correct some of the mistakes we made in regualation and move forward"

Swartz is a putz!

Ya that's why they lost, because they felt bad about themselves. Maybe we should hire Stuart Smalley as our new coach, because your good enough, your smart enough, and gosh darn it people like you.

Not like you could've taken a few shots downfield with 23 seconds left and 2 timeouts or anything, Jim.

He had the biggest hand in those boos. So fuck him. Smug fuck lol

They clearly showed him swearing and gesturing at the crowd during the final seconds in the 4th quarter. These guys (Raiola is another repeat offender of that crap), need to pull their heads out of their asses and understand that fans provide the revenue that pays their paychecks and they have every right to boo when you put a horse shit product on the field, when you regularly blow games in stupid ways, and when you are too arrogant to understand why they are booing. A little self-realism would go a long way. For once, it'd be great to hear, "Yeah, they should boo us when we play that way." Was there anybody watching the game who thought that taking a knee with :25 and two TOs left in the 4th quarter of a tied game was the right call? Even the announcers were calling him out on that decision.

well deserving boo's. the whole staff from GM down need to canned. Go out and get Cowher and let him run the show. These players have had it easy. If the organization is supposedly loosing money, might as well do it with a Super Bowl.

He didn't coach like a man desperate to win the game, he tried to play it safe. Safe hasn't worked ALL SEASON. I'm so sick of seeing him and reading his vague responses it makes me wanna throw up. All I hear is the players talking about how great he was. What a joke. Most if not all effective leaders inspire their folks to work/play hard for them. Dungy wasn't a baddass of a coach but guys played their hearts out for him. Why wasn't this team playing their hearts out for Schwartz? That says more to me than this "we love Schwartz" schtick.

I can't WAIT for them to get rid of him and all that fraudulent cool that comes with him

Damn was hoping to wake up today and learn that he was history..guess not, or not as yet.

Jim Schwartz yelling back at the crowd will be our lasting memory of him. Fitting and good riddance.

No time out after the Jernigan 4th down catch to even give a review a chance. Schwartz has done his part. Not the sole reason and Stafford and Bush have to fix it next year or the new coach is just a place holder for more frustration.

Players do share the blame but these things are easily correctable with a good head coach. The talent is there but lack of how to instruct and use them is the main issue. We are talking fundamentals and they are the things often overlooked when you have an abundance of talent. You would not see no where near the crap we have witnessed the last 4 weeks with coach like Bill Cowher.

From Grantland on ESPN

As unfairly denigrated players around the league were showing up lazy narratives by producing fourth-quarter comebacks, the Lions went out of their way to reinforce theirs with one of the most typically Lions showings imaginable. Matched up against a Giants team that refuses to win most weeks, Detroit managed to show them the light. The Lions had an 87 percent chance of winning the game with possession of the football and a seven-point lead with 5:38 to go.

And then Matthew Stafford threw a tipped pick-six — the 14th of his young career — to Will Hill, who made it into the lineup despite being arrested on Friday on a warrant related to child support payments. From that point forward, even though the Giants turned the ball over twice, the Lions ran 11 plays that produced a net 21 yards of offense. The Giants comfortably converted a third-and-9 and a fourth-and-7 on their final drive to set up a Josh Brown overtime field goal that knocked the Lions out of playoff contention.

That sure is a shame, considering that the Bears and Packers both lost Sunday, which would have given Detroit the NFC North title with a win over Minnesota next week. Then again, who exactly were the Lions going to beat? They've now lost five of their last six games, with just one of those losses coming against a team with a good shot at making the playoffs (Philadelphia). Calvin Johnson was hobbled for most of the day, and after Reggie Bush fumbled, the Lions benched him for most of the second half. That left Joique Bell and Kris Durham as Stafford's top weapons. The team failed to recognize that tight end Dorin Dickerson was concussed and let him play through the second half and the beginning of overtime, during which he dropped a pass and committed a holding penalty. It ran a meaningless end-of-regulation draw with 20 seconds left despite its many fumble issues. Oh, and Jim Schwartz was captured on video cursing at booing fans, a charge he denies. Last year's numbers suggested that the Lions were a 4-12 team playing like a 7-9 team. This year, they've played like the 7-9 team. Good riddance.

If Ford Field didn't have a roof and there was snow in the seats, Schwartz would've been pelted with snow balls a la Harry Gilmer in 1966 in his last game as Lions coach, a game played at Tiger Stadium following a snowstorm. Gilmer was mercilessly pelted as he walked off the field.

Now there's some Lions history that bears remembering, given the collapse of this year's team with the talent they had (much like the Lions of the mid-60's).

Both teams get 2 timeouts in OT. He saved nothing, except the Packers and Bears playoff hopes.

Then there's this:

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2013/12/jim_schwartz_detroit_lions_sea.html

He doesn't call the season a failure?
It depends on what is, is?
He's a half full guy?
When he thinks of failure, he thinks "abject failure"?
He thinks that fans that put up with this bullshit for over half a century and pay his way as a coach don't have the right to express their anger in the form of boos?
The media is reaching in their criticism when the team has won 1 game in the second half of the season?

His definition of failure is that nothing went right?
What went right?
Let's see...............
Still the most penalized in the league
Still the most wildly inconsistent team in the league
Still not getting any pressure with 3 FIRST ROUND PICKS on the defensive line
Our quarterback is still the most spectacularly awesome trick shot interceptionist in the league
Still missing the playoffs after the division was stuffed up our ass AND we had an amazing divisional record at that
Still lacking any discipline whatsoever
Still lacking any sort of in-game awareness
Still unable to beat any semblance of a "good" football team
Still bottomfeeding when teams like the panthers,49ers,seahawks,chiefs, and eagles were able to turn things around after one offseason
Still playing not to lose when that's been blowing up in your face EVERY GAME
Still not holding ANYONE accountable for anything
Still in denial about everything. Bet you don't think you have any grey in your head too right? riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

This dude is unbelievable. I swear he sounds like a man on crack.

I agree with Schwartz

The fans should have been cheering because those few plays sealed Jim's fate.
