Why do you Hate Sparty?? Sure, we don't really *hate* our little brother, but why does he bug the shit out of you??

Hmm...Mine would have to be the longest last second in the history of college football. That still bugs the hell out of me.

A close second would be Mark Dantonio, but seeing as he is a perfect example of their inferiority complex he gets knocked down to the number 2 slot.

This is a horrible thread. The Wolverines and their fans are far superior and shouldn't be expressing hate towards any other team or university, especially a school and program such as Sparty. Michigan is hated by others not the other way around.

I don't hate MSU. They are our rivals, but not THE rival. Furthermore, if you ever want to really upset a Spartan fan let them know that you respect their team, but they just aren't our number 1 rivals.

This is one of the worst things about not living in the state of your favorite team. Msu game is not as big of a game to me because I don't have to hear about it if we lose. I feel like I'm missing out. This games usually means about the same as the notre dame games, maybe more now that we've lost 3 in a row.

Luckily I live by ohio and their fans, so I can truely share the hate.

spartans are a bunch of lovable losers.

unlike those blatant cheaters and degenerates in columbus.

I may speak freely, the Sparty fan talks big, but frankly, we think he's short of intelligence. I mean, you just can't expect a bunch of ignorant peons to understand football like the average Michigan grad. I mean, you take your average Sparty, we all know how much beer he can drink. Hell, lookit all them them couches they burned and they still wouldn't quit.

Sparty fans over the last few years have been getting increasingly arrogant. I worked with an office full of them for the past 8 years. They keep telling me about our B10 record the last 3 years and their #1 defense in the country. I will admit our basketball team did take them down a peg or 2. I do think they are a little bit more concerned than they are letting on because Hoke has us playing well and MSU isnt getting the top in state playing like they did when RR was here.

I don't hate Sparty - they're just annoying; constantly trying to convince us that they're our biggest rival.

"Actually I could have gone to MICHIGAN but the program in (enter insanely narrow field of study) is actually better at State."

My brother and his wife are Michigan alums, my father and I are MSU alums. It's fun around our family. My sister's family are all rabid Wolverine fans. I can say without a doubt that for them, considering our family situation, the MSU-UM game is a bigger deal than the OSU game. That could have something to do with the fact that Michigan hasn't had much hope in beating the Buckeyes for the better part of a decade now.

Like most other college football fans, it's not Michigan Football that I can't stand, it's their fans. The arrogance is unparalleled in college sports. For a team that's shared one National Title in 60 years, and hasn't beaten either of their 2 main rivals in several years, you'd think that some perspective would have been gained. That, and that fact that most Michigan fans have absolutely no affiliation with the school, yet they still refer to Michigan as "we". What's this "we" stuff? You didn't go there, no one you know went there, so refer to them as Michigan, not "we"! That's what perpetuates the "Walmart Wolverine" stereotype of which Michigan fans are now famous for. Also, more than any other fans I am around, including Ohio State and Notre Dame's, Michigan fans root against teams. The vast majority of Big Ten fans root for the Big Ten regardless. I root for OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin etc. when they aren't playing State because I want the Big Ten to be looked upon favorably nationwide.

Also, you haven't won 13 national titles or whatever you now claim, you've won 5 or 6 legitimate NCs and only 1 shared in the last 60 years or so. Also, no one cares that you've won more games than anyone else, that simply means you've been playing longer than just about anyone. Are you honestly proud of victories over Junior College and High School teams around the turn of the last century? Hell, you don't hear Sparty mention the National Titles from the 50s and 60s that we've won, it's ancient history and no one cares about Biggy Munn or Duffy Daugherty anymore than they care about Fielding Yost.

State fans are more pragmatic, we've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory more times than the Lions. Given this we appreciate the teams we've had that have beaten Michigan. It's 3 in a row and if we can hold serve Saturday (we're 3 point favorites) the MSU 4th year seniors will finish their careers undefeated vs Michigan. If that happens, Michigan fans will still be pretending they have some affiliation with school and say "it's a fluke, they we're lucky, WE'LL get them next year."

Dantonio has built a good program in East Lansing now and it's built to last I think. Looks like Hoke has Michigan back on track and that's a good thing to me. I think this rivalry can go to the next level as far as National Prominence goes if both these programs continue to trend upwards.

The whole "most Michigan fans didn't go to the school" is a perspective statement. A poll was done, I think by the Freep, during winter and what it found is that Michigan and Michigan state had almost the exact same percentage of their fan bases which went to the school and didn't go to the school. Just because Michigan has more fans in general doesn't mean that the percentage who went to the school is any more or less.

As far as arrogance, I've said this before - Michigan fans are arrogant because we have a lot to be arrogant about. Sure Michigan hasn't won many NC's in the past 60 years - but we sure as heck have won a ton of big ten championships. Outside of maybe OSU - over the past 50 years Michigan has more big ten champs than anyone. So sure, we might not have a lot of room to talk lately with say an LSU, Oklahoma or Texas - but when it comes to Michigan state, we can be as arrogant as we want. Becuase MSU has won the past 3 doesn't erase the past 50 years of Michigan kicking their butt. Michigan State only averages something like 3 wins against Michigan a decade for the past 50 years. So what you did that past three still has yet to really break that mold.

And arrogance also comes from that fact that there aren't many other sports schools that have won as much as Michigan has and are still considered one of the best schools in the country academically. Another reason we can point and laugh at our MSU counterparts - despite losing a few football games.

The fact remains that what MSU has done the past 3 years is not much different than what almost every other decent big ten team did to us the past 3 years. It doesn't erase it from the books - but it surely dilutes it. I'll begin to respect the MSU program if MSU comes out at beats Hoke 3 years in a row - not some guy pretending to be the Michigan coach.

This sounds like a bunch of bullshit!! No point disputing point for point...

I was not aware that the entire athletic budget for MSU was financed only by MSU students and alums, and that anyone who did not attend MSU does not give a rip about their athletics.

Not at all surprised, however.

Should be johnny100x100x considering how many times we've heard these old tired memes.

Well look at all the UofM fans getting their panties in a bunch. As the lone Spartan fan on these boards (apparently), I've got to speak up.

No team's fans have a reason to be arrogant. Confident and proud? Yes, but arrogant just makes you an asshole and reflects poorly on the school you root for. So if State beats Michigan for the 4th year in a row Saturday, I wont be arrogant, I'll be proud that we've fielded better teams than our rivals down the road for a nice stretch and I'll be happy that Michigan fans will seethe for another full year.

"Ha, I wrote a 500 word dissertation on why Michigan fans suck and a few people bothered to respond to me. What a bunch of losers!"

The higher michigan gets ranked the more our coaches, players, and fans say its wrong. Yea we are the definition of arrogant.

And every damn college has fans from other states that have never went to the school. Since there's no pro football or baseball teams in my state does that mean I'm not allowed to like the nfl or mlb?
