Hoops vs Houston

Admittedly, some saner heads on RCMB did point out that the officiating was shit on both sides not just in our game, but throughout the whole tournament. If these refs keep this shit up I wouldn't be surprised to see the tourney ratings dropping because they've made the games all but unwatchable.

Yeah its a shame because this game could have been in the high 70's or low 80's the refs would have just got out of the way Maybe.

Hey Gulo... what kinda odds did Nate Silver give Jordan Poole to hit that shot? Can you post the 538 link for us?

*snicker*

Holy shit! There's no version of partying too hard after that.

Other people on a different message board thought Houston got screwed too. I dont see it given tbe number of calls.

Honestly, no idea how. They were in the double bonus not even before the 10 minute mark. It was like 10-4 on fouls. We had 22 fouls to their 19. We got some of the most bull-shit ticky tack calls I've ever seen.

maybe in the first half? their big guy got two fouls early and had to sit after scoring their first 4 pts.

i didn't think they were bad calls though. his first foul was an over-the-back which was obvious.

I thought the worst call was Moe's 4th.

after Moe's 4th it seemed to me that things evened out.

honestly there was a long stretch there where all our points came from FTs.

we can't keep missing open looks... UNC will destroy us.

I watched that game mostly in the second half and it seemed like they let a lot of stuff go for awhile and then decided to call it tight down stretch. That kind of inconsistency in the officiating is making it really frustrating to watch college basketball. I know scoring is up from a couple of years ago, but there's far too many games now where the refs just take over, and it doesn't necessarily make for a better product. I'm still not sure on the 5 point play why UM got 2 free throws. Usually on a play like that when there a foul when a shot goes up and it goes in, it's an "and 1", even if the foul wasn't on the shooter.

Some will point to the missed FT's but Davis had been 9-10 up to that point as a 67% shooter. So not surprised he missed. Poole hit a great shot and good poise by Rahman to get him the ball, but horrible strategy by Sampson to not guard the inbounder given that UM couldn't run the baseline, and they still completed the pass to Rahman near midcourt pretty easily, and Poole was basically running free for some reason too. Maybe they were trying to pack the paint to prevent the 2 pointer or Wagner from getting a touch (which would have been a lot harder with a guy guarding the inbounder).

I agree with everything to said Matt. My only thoughts on the 5 point play is that maybe the shot went up and the same time and bucket was made . Now I agree normally it's only a and 1 situation but for some it was called a 1 and 1 as I am not sure if we were in the double bonus yet . It's a miracle that Teske made both and he was freaking 6 for 8 in the whole game his only points . Yup maybe it should have just been a and 1 situation. But the refs were so inconsistent on their calls . The foul that Duncan fouled out on the freaking ref gave the dude a continuation basket NBA style . That foul was on the floor wayl before the shot. Oh well the play was called
INDIANA and will live in tourney history now.

I agree Matt. GUARD THE INBOUNDS GUYS !!!!!

The only thing I can say about the 3 and then the foul is that the foul was called right when or after the ball went through the hoop. So it was separate, and Michigan was awarded the 1-1. But I'm not sure.

It was bad calls both ways. Wagner got 2 just horrible calls against him. One for moving his feet and playing defense, the other for taking an elbow to the head.

Man Espn had a picture of the kid who missed the free throws in his street cloths.. Sort of feel bad for the kid. But heck he had made 9 of 10 up until his misses ,and he was only a 67.1 percent free throw shooter . Guess we were lucky he missed those.

Yep. If someone is on the inbounder (and heck grab your tallest guy off the bench to defend it if you have to), that pass to Rahkman doesn't happen and you're left with either trying to play a shorter pass off to the side and wasting more time to get it up the court, or throwing one up high down the court and hope someone like Wagner who has a couple of inches on the Houston kids can go up and get it and then make a play. But you're a talking a perfect Hail Mary from guys that aren't exactly NFL quarterbacks.

At the very least Houston should have put their extra guy closer to half court to make that entry pass more difficult.
