Hoops vs NW

Now 7-2 Providence beat 6-2 Boston College 100-95 in ot. Every little bit helps in the SOS.

Big Ten and on the road. It's a good win. Everyone loses every now and then. And they got it done. It's not like games carry over.

They were the best defensive team we have played all year. Tough win and you have to gut some out from time to time.

Teske going out in foul trouble really hurt the team. Have to think one of the young guys can provide something that Davis cannot. That was a horrible stretch.

We already knew the weaknesses of the team, depth and FT's. A couple guys got in foul trouble and there was a lot of trouble.

Johns has to be able to defend before he gets extended minutes. That's the only advantage Davis could possibly have. Davis puts up 1.5 PPG and 1 RPG, so it's not like he provides numbers on that end. I'm sure he just knows the offense better than Johns at this point.

Livers and Matthews were no-shows, too, but it's gut wrenching watching Davis out there.

I agree I would rather see Johns over Davis . I think there is more upside. I am worried about Livers. Jb in the next few games needs to get him some hoops at the rim maybe somehow. We are going to need him later this season. I think Mathews will rebound from the bad game. I love his comments to the press after the game. Teske played great defense on that last play. His hands caused a disruption in the play via tipping the ball. Iggy and Mathews both ran at the final shot without fouling with hands up.

Michigan basketball tested, but counterpunches Northwestern for win. I think if you scroll down the replay is there.

Funny we were 9-13 shooting free throws and still missed 70%. Finishing at a close 69.2. I think I would take that all season with this club if we were allowed to..

I am unsure why Simpson panicked so much down the stretch attempting those threes. I have a thought but I do not think any of you would like it. Yes the Wildcats sagged off and dared him to shot those. Normally he makes 1 or 2 of those five attempts. Does anyone think Simpson May be Jealous of how good Iggy is ?
Mathews says all the right things and they are roommates but as far as the NBA goes Iggy is the best prospect on this team right now and he is a freshmen. Some of those plays down the stretch were maddening from Michigan.

Boy when our 4th and 5th three went in from Iggy, and Brooks they were so cultch. Iggy’s Tied the game and Brooks gave us a one point lead. Our only bench points. Anyway the jealous take is probably stupid but damn Iggy is good.

I do not think Simpson is jealous at all. The team, the coaches, everyone around the program said Simpson is the unquestioned leader of this team. Not one bit of concern there for me.

As far as Livers, he's been playing the 4 and 5 spots most of this season and last night he got thrown into the 3 because of Matthews early fouls. This is where depth hurts because we only having one sub per position. JB may have to rethink his 1 foul benching. Matthews sat for a long time, until under the 12 min mark, in the 1st half after his early foul and you could tell it disrupted his rhythm for the game. It hurt even more with Livers being forced to play out his normal positions almost all game.

Simpson took the 3's, because he was wide open. He probably figured one would go down eventually.

I'd love JB to rethink his auto-benching philosophy, but at this point, I guess that is what he is going to do. Benching Matthews and Teske with 3 fouls for about 8 minutes seems like a bad idea to me. I think he'd be better off leaving them in. Northwestern did it with Lawson and he never fouled out. I don't even know if Matthews and/or Teske got another foul. Seems the refs are reluctant to give a guy his 5th foul sometimes. Carrying a 15 pt lead with 5 minutes to go and having those guys foul out might have been the better play.

I think this is sometimes where Izzo gets it. Izzo is playing his "weird guys" major minutes right now. JB isn't. JB needs to start playing those guys. It'll be ugly for now, but it'll pay off in a month.

Next 7 of 8 games are at home. Time to play guys.

South Carolina 4-3.
Western Mich 4-4.
Air Force 3-5.
Binghamton 3-5.
Psu 4-4.
Indiana 7-2.
@ Illinois 2-6
Northwestern 6-3.

I want to see the kids step up as much as everyone else here, but there is the distinct possibility that none of them are ready.

It's not like any of them have looked good when they have played limited minutes. DeJulius is 1-8, Castleton weighs as much as the wind, and Nunez is a complete deer in headlights. He has taken terrible shots and is 0-5 on the season.

Johns is likely our only realistic hope for any more help off the bench this year.

This is just me. Obviously, JB knows what he is doing. Davis has been here as long as Teske. Davis, to me, hasn't progressed at all. At least one of the young guys might improve.
