Hoops vs Texas Tech

Don't forget Nunez. He's supposed to be a sharpshooter. Practice notes say that he has a really pure 3 point shot. Obviously, we didn't get a chance to see it.

Well we did get to see him take 13 threes in garbage time. He hit one of them.

Yeah. The TT D was good in the paint, but MIchigan had several wide open looks from 3. That shouldn't happen against a good D. Everyone just missed them. They hit just 5 or 6 of those and it's a whole different ball game.

Exactly. Hit 5 of the threes and TT doesn't get the garbage banked in three, it's a four point game.

Only 1. We only have 12 scholarship players right now. Wilson and Bajema put us at 14 next year if Matthews stays.

However, Matthews is not staying. 0% chance. "We're very sad that his college career is ending," John Beilein said, "But he will work his tail off to have a successful career going forward, and he'll have a big imprint on Michigan forever."

OK, well, I've read a hundred times that we still will need to have some attrition. Maybe those 100 guys were all wrong.

Matthews has graduated and word is that he is done. Whether he goes NBA, G league, D league, Europe, he's done.

Then they have to get rid of someone else somehow. I don't know how that will go down.

We do not have to get rid of anyone else.

1. Simpson
2. Teske
3. Davis
4. Poole
5. Brooks
6. Livers
7. DeJulius
8. Johns
9. Iggy
10. Castleton
11. Nunez
12. Wilson
13. Bajema

OK OK

next time I see it posted, I'll refer them to you...HaHa

I did lay out our 13 scholarship players in a list. We are full, but not over the limit with Matthews leaving. Feel free to provide my list to those 100 other fools.

So will the Wilson kid play right away ?

We'll find out at the beginning of November. He's long and skilled, but not an elite athlete. We'll have to see how that translates in his freshman year.

His 3-point shooting might leave a bit to be desired on paper. He was at 27% on the Adidas Gauntlet Gold Circuit. However, a lot of that has to do with his high usage and being forced to take some bad shots to try and carry his team.

We recently made an offer to another 4-star kid, Lester Quinones. Hoping we can grab him. He grew up a Michigan fan. He's got deep range and he shot 36% on NBA range 3s this year. LSU, Maryland, Memphis, IU, and Blowhio State are our competition.

How can we offer him if we are close to being over the limit? Are we going to make some guys walk?

Wilson highlights reminds me of Levert. Long and skinny.

Yeah. You have to keep things in perspective. The team won the BTT and went to the title game last year. They aren't going to do that every single season. They lost 3 good players and got 1. That being said, this was MSU's best team in a while. If MSU doesn't strike it rich with these weird guys, then MIchigan is hanging 2 banners this year. It's bad timing really.

Lack of bench is a big factor this year. 5 recruits and only 1 did anything all year. They have Mr Dribbles Brooks out there that dribbles fast and plays D and not much else, then nothing. The other 4 recruits were basically bodies. I hope they can develop into something. Early entry into the draft and only getting 1 body was the difference between 30-7 and no banners and a better record with banners.

in what way did "MSU strike it rich with weird guys"? Winston and Ward were both high 4 stars (ranked 29th and 41st nationally) and Langford (20th) was a 5 star in 2016, McQuaid (86th) was also a 4 star in 2015 and Tillman (84th) was a 4 star in the 2017 class. They're all part of recruiting classes that were ranked higher than their uofm counterparts except 2017 but we only had 2 kids in that class and I would bet any coach in 2017 would take JJJ and Tillman over Poole, Livers and Brooks.

Seeing these guys be successful in a heavily upperclassman laden team shouldn't be a surprise.

Offer is already out, so I think some attrition is expected. I have to assume Davis. He's not going to get any PT next year, so he may look to move to a smaller school.

dude, You obviously haven't realized this. I don't respond to you. This is the only time I am doing this. I won't speak to you anymore, so quit obsessing over me and quit trying to be argumentative with me. I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in carrying on a conversation with you. Even when I prove you completely wrong, you just ignore it and act like it didn't happen. I'm done with you. Spend your time doing something else other than reading and responding to my posts.

He's skinny, but not LeVert skinny. Thankfully. LeVert weighed about 165 soaking wet his freshman year. Wilson is listed at 215 right now, so I'm assuming he's more like 205.

Oh and how could I have forgot

tip off at 9:58 after a power outage? WTf?

of course MSU gets to start at 7ish. They did that last year, too.

ALso

Last night's "game" was just a huge commercial break with a small amount of bball mixed in. It was horrible. Then when they came back from commercials, they did more broadcast commercials. It was really bad. If watching college basketball live is going to be like that, I don't know how much longer i will do it. I might just record all games from now on.

don't flatter yourself - I'm not obsessed with you and I've yet to see you prove anyone wrong here. I see you pull this 3rd grade stuff all them time though, especially when dubbs and even that knucklehead wolves24 dare to disagree with you.

it was a legitimate serious question, not an argument and I thought maybe you had grown up a little bit after that conversation about ward in the other thread. but if you want to be baby and throw a tantrum and pretend I'm trying to antagonize you rather than explain what you meant, go right ahead.

If MSU makes the Final Four then it's the most accomplished team since 2009 or 2010, but "best" is a pretty subjective thing. Last year's team had more talent and accomplished a lot but wasn't experienced enough. The 2016 team appeared to be capable of winning it all, until the unthinkable happened in Round 1. 2014 same deal but injuries somewhat derailed that team (and a poor effort vs UConn in the Elite 8). 2014 was certainly more talented than this team. 2012 (Draymond's senior year) won a share of the BT regular season, the BTT and grabbed a #1 seed. That team reminds me some of this year, except they lost in the Sweet 16, so let's not hope for a repeat of that.

If it's MSU's best team in awhile it's not by much and has a lot of competition.

UM should be very good next year. They should return at minimum 4 starters. But in order to win the Big Ten, a better bet is hope those players progress and they go out and take it rather than relying on MSU to drop off (which has only happened a few times here and there over the past 22 years). I'd expect MSU to be very good again returning at minimum Winston, Langford (assuming he's healthy), Tillman and Henry, Ahrens with 1 potential impact newcomer (Watts). Ward is a question mark but if he returns, the top 10 is a pretty good bet again. If not, some other people need to grow up, but still a good team. I do fear we might miss McQuaid and Goins more than we realize though.
