How come you guys don't do a kickoff countdown?

It's real easy. all you need to know how to do is: 1) count backwards, and 2) post a picture of a football player (I suggest you use former MSU players).

The football player selected should be wearing the jersey number corresponding to the days remaining until kickoff. You can start as far in advance as 99 days before kickoff, since that's the highest jersey number allowed in college.

Makes sense?

It's a fun way to show your school spirit and also remind fans how many days until the season starts, so nobody misses the opening game.

You wouldn't post on the day of kickoff, unless you had a player who wore #0.

I don't think we did. It's more common in basketball.

Crap, why didn't you tell us how easy it was 2 months ago, then we could have looked like a bunch dorks like you guys AND possibly even been exposed to hard hitting analysis from the Spartan equivalent of Hungry, like "we'll probably see 50 run plays because jh, who I want to blow so badly, doesn't want to reveal the playbook" then someone less stupid like the MSU equivalent of wolves24 respond with "you're an idiot. it's a brand new offense. We will definitely see some of it because they need to game test it." to which the MSU hungry would respond "you're right, I am an idiot. But I stand by what I said - we definitely won't see THE WHOLE playbook this Saturday" as if any coach does that against powder puff openers and that's real value added commentary followed up by "Oh, and I wish the game was at 3pm instead because my I don't punch out of my shift at the prison until 1:30 and it takes me 40 minutes to get home if I don't get lost along the way. But don't worry, I'll provide my top level post game analysis where I say over and over again that jh is a god who can never be questioned, and did I mention I so badly want to blow him."

No, this not why you count down from 0, brainiac.

You don?t countdown from 0 because there?s nothing to count down either from or to.

It?s game day already.

Sheesh.

If you?re going to troll our #2 or #3 rivals? board, at least don?t be embarrassing.

far be it from me to defend mc but I'm pretty sure he is saying you count down "to" 0, not from it and that you don't post on day 0 because it's gameday. You guys can post on day 0 though - maybe a gif of the team running onto the field and touching the banner or something like - that would really get the dsf crew fired up for kickoff.

This is literally asking for the impossible. You might as well ask him to perform open heart surgery tomorrow or pull some weeds from your garden.

I probably should have thought twice before I set him up like that here.

You forgot the Spartan hungry equivalent making an attention seeking "State wins!!!" Thread after the game

lighten up, man.

maybe if you guys did fun stuff like countdowns and "we win!!" threads, you wouldn't all be such wet blankets all the time.

maybe if you weren't such a loser you wouldn't think internet countdowns and "we win" threads were so much fun. Do you miss going to pep rallies in high school?

I've never read anything about anyone 'blowing jh' ....seems the president has a problem 'diddling boys' according to some in the know over here, but I don't think anyone's ever mentioned that in regards to the MICHIGAN coach.

ooh, sick burn Not White Vic! Why don't you go back to the uofm board and tell more great stories about 2 grown men wearing jerseys to the bar when it's not even football season and calling other people losers for striking up a conversation from it (behind their backs, of course). I guess they couldn't tell how cool you were - maybe they were too focused on your jersey to notice your hipster chin dirt.

Did anyone wear #2 for MSU? I do not recall. Wait, is not the game tomorrow?

Here. Mushin Muhammad. Even with a Michigan player (Chuck Winters) draped all over him.

Moose was awesome but Charles Rogers is probably the best to wear #1 for the Green and White during my lifetime and I'd probably also put Andre "Bad Moon" Rison ahead of Mushin.

Really? dang.

here's a fun idea that might cheer you up a bit - when all the fun of the countdown is over and now that Harbaugh has a chance at beating osu, you can start another countdown to the Ohio State game!

It will be 91 days from Saturday (90 if you don't want to start the countdown on the opener). Usually the countdown starts in the 60s if I'm not mistaken so this will give you the opportunity to use some TE, WRs and D-lineman you don't normally get to use. Unfortunately it's too late for Tom Harman, again.

Of course, this countdown would be a little riskier since unlike the summer, they could get exposed along the way which might take the fun out of it. I wish for your sake I had thought of this last year.

Well, he's a local favorite, so he came to mind.

I don?t feel like starting that thread.

If somebody else wants to they can.

Or if somebody just wants to start bumping the current countdown thread at day sixty every day for 60 days, someone could do that.

he was awesome but still a fairly obscure reference particularly from a non-Spartan. I was impressed.

Edit: and to answer your earlier question, Herb Haygood wore #2, speedy wide receiver and return man probably best remembered for a reception on 4th & 10 that he took 60+ yards to the house late in the 4th quarter to beat ND. More recently, Will Gholston wore #2 for the Green & White.
