The top 5 defense isn't terribly far fetched, but he's putting an awful lot of faith in Joe Lombardi's 'system'. It will take more than Stafford stepping for those numbers to happen. I also don't see it but would be ecstatic if the offense came remotely close to those stats.

Top 5 PPG is not far fetched for the offense that is loaded with talent.
Stafford is good and has led a top 5 offense before and played well enough in 2013 and 2014 for a top 5 offense. Calvin and Tate are elite and healthy
We upgraded protection (with draft and health) and run game big time this offseason
Year 2 of the system, plus Lombardi can learn from mistakes
Moore can be solid
Ebron is talented and in year 2.

Everything points to top 5.

The defense could be top 5 but it is a better bet that they are outside of the top 5. They were #1 vs the rush last year at 69.3 yards per game & #13 in passing yards per game. I just feel Suh is that kind of difference maker that both numbers will drop off.

I don't disagree at all. If I had to put money on it, I'd say outside top 5.

I wonder how many times a team has gone from bottom third in the league in pts scored to top 5. Not many I bet.

Lions were 22 last year in p/g. If we had a kicker for the first half the year, we'd be middle of the pack then probably. I am really hoping that the numbers Stafford put up in the preseason(his best since 2011), are telling of his mastery of the system now(as well as the added O-line help), and not just preseason defenses. Stafford looked good in the Pro Bowl too, with an actual line in front of him. Same issue with the defense in that "game" though too.

Like I said in the prediction thread, I think they can be a top 10 offense, if everything comes together for them.

You have to remember who you are talking too. He believes the QB is the least important player on the field, they contribute to the win loss record less than anyone. The most important players based on contributing to a win in his mind are:

2 - Kick/Punt Returner
3 - Punter
4 - #3 WR

QB is most important. And Stafford does his job well. But other players can obviously derail QB stats.

We won 11 with Stafford playing well and defense. Imagine if Stafford got proper support. You'll see that in 2015.
