If we win the world series this year

So basically we have become Yankee fans? Expecting to win and ANYTHING short of a WS victory is a disappointment?

That's bull shit. I have enjoyed quite a bit of this season. The only reason you can say this season wasn't enjoyable is because your expectations were way too high to begin with. This team has no bullpen, questionable 4 and 5 starters, and outside of our 1,3 and 4 hitters.....we have a minor league lineup!!

Un fucking believable that Detroit Tiger fans......the fucking Tigers......would say anything like "what an unenjoyable season this World Series winning team gave us".

I'll assume Chico wrote this post.....sounds a lot like that little fag!!

I hope we haven't gotten to be as bad as Yankee fans, they don't even bother to stay at a playoff game only down by 4. I don't think tigers fans would ever do that.

I don't know about the rest of these debbie downers but try to understand this is what many years of disappointment tend to do to people whom aren't basketball or hockey fans. Personally I only get most upset when watching the Tigers when I see lack of plate discipline which happens often with this team.. I just don't seem to have much tolerance for it.

What the OP is asking is can everyone look back at this season and said they enjoyed it?

Seriously. We may win it all, and it will have been worth what we went through, but this season was the cause of probably hundreds of ulcers, cases of the squirts, people breaking things around the house, and blood pressure rising to stroke like levels.

I don't think there is anyone who can honestly say they "enjoyed" how the season went. That's not to say they didn't stick by their team and hope for the best, but 2011 was enjoyable, 2012 was maddening. The end results may differ, but the beginning and middle have already been written, and it's not something very many would want to read again.

Maybe thumb but there are still some great things to look back on. AJ's emergence, JV being JV, Triple Crown. Lots of things.

the difference between this year and last was expectations.

come off 2010 it was a blessing to have done that well in 2011..once they signed fielder the pressure was on for 2012

There were moments. Overall for the 162 games (I'm not counting the postseason) I didn't enjoy it as much as 2011.

Offense was bad
Defense was atrocious
Boesch, Raburn, Young, Peralta, Avila, Inge/Kelly/Worth/Santiago, all had disappointing seasons.

Bullpen was crummy at times.

Expectations aside, we were a poor team, that was carried by a few susperstars, really no other way to describe it.

That said, I hope we win it all, always did.

Hey, I have an idea...

Any season going forward the Tigers aren't willing to GUARANTEE they'll win the Central by a minimum of 10 games...

...then fuck it; just have them forfeit the whole season, and we can spend the summer fishing.

Hey, I have another idea...maybe the First Lady of the United States, when she goes about her cause of trying to make little kids be less fat, could also throw in another admonishment:

"Adopting the love of your local/regional professional/college sports team can end up causing you heartbreak and trauma in your adult years. My fuckin' husband, the President of the United States, has hated welcoming every big league or college championship team ever since we moved into White House, except for the White Sox, which, hasn't happened one fuckin' time.

This is just a precaution."

This is the most stupidest thread ever initiated and you are all morons for addressing it. The regular season is over. The second season has begun. What difference does it make whether the first season was optimal or not? The Tigers nearly fractured the 2006 season too, and no one was complaining that it was not "memorable."

2006 was definitely memorable. We finished 29 games over .500 and won 95 games. We were about 40 games over .500 at one point in August and we were pretty much guaranteed at least the wild card spot. We wrapped up a playoff spot with 6 or 7 games left. That team was pretty enjoyable from the get go.

The one thing I worry about is the way things could line up and I am being hypothetical but I don't see us losing more then one game in this Yankee's series at the worst I believe were done in 5 and could even possibly sweep them the way they are hitting the ball right now.

If you remember in 06 we swept Oakland in the ALCS and St Louis ended up going 7 against the Mets. We ended up having 7 days off between series and just lost all the momentum we had from the A's series. The same thing could happen here. I see this series with Stl/SF possibly going 6-7 games which could bring up the same RUST factor.

The way our pitchers are throwing the ball right now on a record pace btw for the postseason I wish both series ends quickly and lets get this WS going without having to wait a week and kill some nice momentum we have going.

24 hours ago I was about to lose my mind because of Valverde. Little different mood now, the starting pit hung might be enough for this team to win it all.

Starting pitching wins over good hitting come playoff time. Hell you can just not what most analyst and commentators were saying in that Detroit was probably the most dangerous team in the playoffs because we had the best starting rotation out of all the teams in the playoffs.

Now its just more obvious when our starters are dominating this postseason so far in record fashion. I think if we do end up winning the WS its going to be very memorable simply because of the pitching we got this postseason and how its stands out even more so when you consider our lackluster offense and below average defense.

I can't just look at box scores and say "Oh we won!" Yeah Game 1 we did end up winning but my brain doesn't just erase the hour from the 9th-12th where my heart was ripped out and stomped on. Yes Game 5 in Oakland was incredible, doesn't make me forget how brutally painful Game 4 was. That has been the way this team is, they get there but the way they get there makes you feel sick at times. It's like going on a long car drive with a horrible driver, yes you get to your destination but it doesn't make you feel any less stomach pain. Get off your soapbox about how your way of viewing things makes you better than other fans. Fans have different attitudes and being negative is how some chose to deal with things. It's not up to you what is right and what is wrong and how people should view a season. Everyone will be thrilled with a World Series, we aren't spoiled but some of the things that have happened to us do not fall under the "Normal circumstances" of a season.

I feel like the rampant criticism of leyland/DD has been overkill (although count me in on the criticism of Leyland for game 1) DD has made two trades that are the only reason the tigers are even where they are. Leyland has provided a level of chemistry this team hasn't had since the mid 80's.

Think about all the failed managers/randy smith debacles etc that allowed the tigers to flounder for nearly two decades.

Whether you agree with the total vision it's hard to argue with the results if you stand back and evaluate it.

I say this as a browns fan who has watched 20 plus qb's and six coaches in only twelve seasons and what that level of instability does for a franchise. Change isn't always good in fact more often it isn't.

If looking back on this season is a disappointment, then I don't think baseball is the game for you to watch. Every team has flaws. Yes, it is frustrating at times, but that is just how a game will be when there is 1 team that wins over 60% of their games (.605 by the Nats). I think the flaws in teams are partially what makes the game so special.

Yankee fans aren't focusing on the fact that our bullpen is shaky, but they are saying, "What the hell, we have to face JV and Max now? We just faced two solid pitchers that shut us down. I wish we had SP like the Tigers."

Its sort of like riding in the car while my wife is driving. If I actually pay attention, then I grip my seat in fear, yet we always get to the destination in one piece. If I close my eyes or fool around with my phone and then look up when we get there, I'm much more calm.
