Jan 1 Bowl Games

This brand of rationale applied by M fans about a similar loss would be considered spin.
Maybe by biased msu fans like me but I think msu proved yesterday that we aren't out of it down in the 4th.

right...but they were down by double digits for all but 40 seconds of the 4th quarter.
We were down 20 with 12 mins to go and 13 with 5 to go yesterday. I felt the game was over yesterday late in the 3rd, but I never had the feeling in the Oregon game until midway trough that 96 yard drive after the Cook int.

Well we were just down 20 to start the 4th against #5 baylor to start the 4th (in what was essentially a home game for them)

Were we out of that one?

Baylor has no defense. It was a great comeback in that game but obviously Oregon is a better team...based on the 46-27 final score.

I certainly hope you aren't going to call every 20 point loss "being in the game" because of one miracle come back in 2015!

are OSU and oregon known for defense? They're all similar spread tempo teams with elite offense. I just don't think the argument that those games were over to start the 4th holds water when we came back from a much bigger hole yesterday against a very similar elite team.

Interesting to note, that under the old BCS system, it most likely would have been Alabama vs FSU in the national championship game who both lost yesterday.

They are not known for their defenses but they both have better defenses than Baylor. That said...one miracle comeback does not mean you are "still in the game" when down double digits in the 4th. MSU was down double digits in the 4th 3 times this year and lost by double digits twice.

Just went back and looked. The last 10 games that MSU was down double digits in the 4th they are 1-9

I don't remember the OSU score to start the 4th but we were down 5 to start the 4th at oregon. We were hardly out of that game and had a number of chances in the 4th, I think we threw an interception in the red zone down 12 or so. We also had a few chances in the OSU game. I guess we'll just disagree that msu wasn't in the game against OSU and oregon.

I wouldn't expect a much different outcome.
I'd say oregon would win 7 of 10 but our running game had cone around a lot. We were still breaking in some new linemen, I think Kruse was out as well, Langford was questionable going into that week too. Of course oregon has improved but they would be playing without their all American CB so that would make a big difference.

so you write off every team that's down double digits early in the 4th quarter? We were down less that 2 TDs w/ 14 minutes left in a game that we led for most of 3 quarters and you're saying we were out of it despite the fact that we nearly got it to a 5 point game with 8 minutes left? Obviously we lost the game but saying it was over by the 4th quarter is ridiculous.

OK...so about 10% of the time it's over.

The main reason I wouldn't expect a much different result is that Mariota doesn't make mistakes like Cook does. They probably have more and better playmakers and the coaching is probably fairly even but Mariota doesn't have big lapses in judgement or slumps like Cook and he's the best player on the field in virtually every game.

well...they lost 9 of their last 10 when they were down 10 or more in the 4th.

I'm assuming you pulled that out of your ass but even if it's true, you do realize that ultimately losing the game doesn't mean they were out of it, right?

I still think Oregon's offense is gimmicky though I'm happy they took out FSU the way they did. Hell, I don't even know how officials can keep up with it and make sure their properly aligned on every play. So many of their scores seem to come after you've bottled them up for awhile and then they spring a big one because the defense was disorganized.

Who is this idiot OSU player who actually tried to take that interception back giving Bama a chance for a strip? God I would have loved to see a fumble and run for a TD for Bama just for that.

He's the guy who as a freshman, stepped in front of the Gardner pass attempt for two to win the 2013 game in Ann Arbor. Tyvis Powell is his name. He is already part of Buckeye lore with a couple years of playmaking still to go.

her name is Heather Cox and she was at the Rose Bowl but FSU lost so she didn't get to ask him anymore questions about his rape case because she had to interview Mariota.

I wonder why she didn't ask Mariota that, now that he has also won the Heisman, can we expect to see a sexual assault complaint/investigation against him?
