Severely injured his hand in a fireworks accident....hasn't signed his franchise offer yet.

Is this confirmed? I see no news about it except for talk on twitter.

nbc sports has a small blurb on it now but no details. It wasn't confirmed when I posted it.

According to Andy Slater of WINZ in Miami, Pierre-Paul ?severely injured? his hand in a fireworks accident last night.

A woman who said she was his neighbor tweeted out a photo of a ?truck load of fireworks,? showing large boxes in a van.

Details at this point are few, but this could potentially have a huge impact on him and the Giants, as he hasn?t signed his franchise tender worth $14.8 million, and they?d have a tremendous lack of pass rush without him if he missed an extended amount of time.

There are rumors that he may have to have his hand amputated.

I guess we'll see. Most of what I'm seeing is saying he may be missing some pieces of his fingers. But you can still be a pass rusher with missing parts of fingers....recovering fumbles may be more difficult.

Not sure if its real but someone posted this pic saying its his hand

It may not be. Some are saying it isnt career ending but right now I think its to early to tell.

What I am wondering is the Giants tagged him. I wonder if they can take it back or if for at least this year they are stuck.

They can pull the tag but he will be an UFA.

This is what Shefter just said.

JPP has burns on palm, 3 fingers. 1 finger could have nerve damage. Didn't lose any fingers, team thinks he'll be OK, per.

This does contradict what people who were there have said. They really wont know full damage though till he meets with surgeon

Just wrap his hand up like a club. I've seen players who had broken hands wrapped up like that and managed to play.

They can do that although I think that is easier for interior lineman to do. With him being an OLB they really do need their hands.

Crazy story. Hope it isn't as bad as it first sounded, and that Schefter's report of it just being burns but no fingers lost is correct.

If it's not professional fireworks done by a city, it's pointless. People get hurt every freaking year, and the ones people buy are insanely lame.

Exactly. The general population shouldn't be able to buy mortars to light off in the driveway while they are drunk as shit. Look at all the stories about people dying or getting seriously injured each year. Leave it to the professionals who will do a WAY better job anyhow.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. When I was a kid, twice someone got killed, miles away, from a city firework show. Of course they stopped them and still don't do as of today from what I understand.

I was a sparkler guy. My Dad would buy* them for us and as a kid that was plenty.
