JoePa, important point

Joe Paterno is done and I'm intentionally not referring to him as 'JoePa' because that nickname is endearing and conjures up images of an old, kindly man. **** him and **** anyone involved.

This has NOTHING to do with football.

This has nothing to do with 'poor old JoePa.'

The ongoing investigation into who knew what and what they were complicit in concealing should determine the punishment. If Joe Paterno dies in prison, so be it.

God knows (insert Omniscient presence of choice) there is far worse awaiting Sandusky, than simple jail. And he deserves it all.

Joe Paterno won't be the Penn State coach this Saturday, in my opinion, and if the hammer comes down on him, so be it.

I actually typed "JoePa" while making my last post, had the same thought, and changed it to "Paterno"

...and I wouldn't let him coach another minute if it were my call. I don't think there's any explanation for Paterno's inaction, but if there was, and I knew it, I'd still put him on administrative leave at a minimum. This thing isn't about football, and it isn't right to have this thing anywhere near your football team. Anyone remotely involved with the cover up shouldn't be anywhere near anyone involved with football. As much as nobody would want to deal with football when it's been overshadowed by something so terrible, there's a game that's going to be played Saturday.

Now if it's my call and I don't know of any explanation for Paterno's behavior, that should make the decision easier.

Uuuh...how good are the players in the state? With pitt being avg and penn st about to get the hammer. I say we go after some players. Either future recruits or recruits in the upcoming class.

this whole thing is INSANE. you couldn't dream up a WORSE scandal to bring down your program than this.

I mean, this is some real catholic church kinda stuff, covering it up, and essentially enabling it by virtue of the resources and access they allowed this guy to have for his "charity" group. YUCK!

I swear to you there was a Criminal Minds episode on almost the exact storyline. Maybe it was L&O-SVU, but I saw it just last week!

So ****ing sickening, so ****ing wrong

tOSU and happy endings...err I mean happy valley saw our practice too long media attention and doubled down. The part I dont get is there was police involvement in a couple different occasions yet nothing came of it. If joepa did go to the head of the police at the time, told the ad, and sandusky was gone by 99'....then what more could he really have done? He will be gone for sure...but I dont blame him if thats the case.

I'm not sure it's coincidental that this investigation breaks only AFTER Paterno gets #409.

How did the story break anyways? Everyone is so wrapped up in the details and latest happenings that I never got a clear idea of how this came out into the open.

He reported it to the campus police, not to an outside police force. There were clear conflicts of interest where the people in charge of the police were weighing the impact on the university against the impact on those poor children and made a heinous choice. You have to look a little bit at the history of Penn State, about how it was basically built up and put on the map by Paterno and the football program. Anything that might jeopardize that could not be allowed to come to light--even if it meant allowing a monster to keep abusing children behind (not even?!) closed doors.

Paterno should have seen this one through to the end, not just sat on his hands to protect a longstanding friend and colleague. Absolutely abhorrant behavior if I ever saw it.

I only heard about it last weekend, while watching football. I was all like WTF?!?!?!

My understanding is that this only broke after the findings of the grand jury investigating were released.

Grand juries proceedings are generally held in secret until they come to a resolution; it's not like a standard court proceeding that is open to the public.

SO... the witnesses involved give their testimony, and the AD, and other guy's statements conflicted with the sworn testimony of others. I'm guessing they found the other testimony to be credible, hence the perjury charges for the two of them.

At that point, Penn St couldn't keep it quiet anymore. The AD would've publicly announced the perjury charges, and the charges against Sandusky...

Just like the Tattgate scandal at Ohio* -- a real ongoing criminal investigation finally broke and, as collateral damage, a football team got drawn into a criminal situation (drug trafficking and child molestation).

Clearly there are differences but both were simply on going and broken once enough evidence had been obtained. My conspiracist side (and I'm not alone) is that the case broke just now, only after Paterno got #409.

Even if its merely a coincidence, I think it illustrates the incredible amount of sympathy Coach has gotten all along.

Honestly guys, this is the worst thing to even happen in the NCAA. Nothing comes close.

There are voices talking about shutting down the PSU football season immediately. Others have said shutting the program down might be an option.

I don't think people yet understand that PSU football was what Sandusky used to rape children, to keep the victims and witnesses silent, and to groom more victims. PSU football was essential to everything Sandusky did right up to the present.

now that's going a little overboard...

that would be like saying MSU football was essential to thugs mobbing up and beating people senseless at frat parties in East Lansing.

Actually, the latter is probably true.

There's no need to shut the program down. Just clean house and bring in a new staff from top-to-bottom. Though, I doubt Penn State will be any good for the next few years, so maybe they will shut down the program after all...

I read the grand jury report tonight. Very disturbing. I can't believe so many people turned a blind eye to this. Makes you feel sick.

Something else I found interesting was about the DA. He found there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute one of the incidents. Oddly enough, I remember watching a show just recently on Discovery ID called Dissapeared. The story was about a DA named Ray Gricar ( who was the DA in this case ). He went missing and was never found. His laptop was found in a river where he was last seen with the hard drive removed. I just thought that was odd seeing his name listed in the Grand Jury report and wathing a show about what happend to him. Probably just a coincidence.

I watch CNN International during the day, and even CNN International was reporting about Paterno, Sandusky and Penn State. Not often that an american university football program gets that much attention on an international stage.

It is shocking. Just shocking. On par with the child sex abuse scandal by catholic preists and the coverup. No way to excuse anyone involved. How could they know what was going on and still allow the pervert to associate with children and bring them to campus, etc. GOOD GOD IN HEAVEN! WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS COUNTRY!?

Seriously, who the hell would want to go to rape U after this. Just send the military in and nuke that town...all the ppl coming home from iraq need something to do anyway.
