Justice Kennedy Announces Retirement

Great here comes a freaking right wing court for the next 20 to 40 years. Maybe that Civil war is coming sadly. It wouldn?t be a issue if McConnell wouldn?t have hosed Obama?s pick and Garland was on the Court. But The GOP doesn?t give a shit about the American people and never have.

How is that any different, instead of a conservative controlled court it's a dem controlled court.

Trump will pick whoever McGahn, Miller, and Conway (through Bekah Mercer) agree to "suggest".

Wouldn't have had horribad decisions like Citizens United.

Corporations being treated like individual private citizens...except for crimes and punishment.

Sounds about right.

Napolitano sat on the New Jersey bench from 1987 to 1995, becoming the state's youngest then-sitting Superior Court judge.[3]

As a judge, Napolitano issued several notable decisions. In State v. Barcia, Napolitano found that random DWI roadblock checkpoints were unconstitutional under both the Federal and New Jersey state constitutions, and sustained a motion to suppress drug and drug paraphernalia evidence found at such a stop.[4] In the case In re K.L.F., Napolitano found that New Jersey?s Frivolous Pleading Statute could be applied against the state as well as private litigants whose claims were frivolous.[5] In Cusseaux v. Pickett, Napolitano decided that a woman who was abused and mistreated by her husband has a civil cause of action against her abuser for the resulting battered person syndrome.[6]

He resigned his judgeship in 1995 for private practice. He later pursued a writing, teaching, and television career. He also served as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University School of Law for 11 years from 1989?2000. Napolitano taught at Brooklyn Law School before being let go by the law school in 2017.

According to a March 2017 report in Politico, Napolitano told friends that President Donald Trump told him he was considering Napolitano for a United States Supreme Court appointment should there be a second vacancy.[7]

All in for Merrick Garland.

Wouldn't that be a giant kick in the nuts if the GOP blocked him from being an Obama nomination just to nominate him later on themselves? Certainly makes for good headlines and Dems couldn't say shit about it.

Illinois Senator using Turtle Man's tweets against him. Have I mentioned I fucking hate Twitter?

Pray tell me when the last huge set of years for Democrats have been on the court lol ? Kennedy has always been more right then left in my opinion. A Left leaning court. I would sure love to see it. One that is not on the side of corporation over people.

I don't suppose it would be too much to ask for another swing voter?

It’s not too much to ask at all.

About as much chance as a snowball’s chance in hell of happening, but you have as much right as anybody to ask for anything you want.

What does that say about the dems. Don't like the POTOS go violent.

Only if they actually go violent. Conservatives being scared doesn't mean the threat is actually something people are commonly going to experience. It just means they're scared...which leads to anger, which leads to hate...

That wasn't my point.

Really
Your exact words were a ?Dem? controlled court which mostly implies left leaning to me .. so please tell me what you point is? In my life the court has always seem to be 5-4 in favor of republicans or moderately leaning to the right . And when the court had a shot at maybe trending moderately left McConnell changes the rules and does not let Obama get his Appointment . Now the court will be 6-3 and way right leaning with Kennedy?s retirement.
I guess you have your opinion and I can have mine.

When we were young - kids - the Warren Court was pretty liberal.

Since Nixon took office, Republicans appointed justices by a number of 13 to 4 as opposed to Democrats; and this next appointment will be 14-4.

But I don't know that any of the liberal decisions made by the Warren Court have been overturned since then.

My point was why is left leaning any different than right leaning? How does that fix anything? I understand you would like to see all 9 left leaning but how does that fix anything? 6-3 one way or the other is bad. The dems have controlled the supreme court before, it will again.

For Kennedy being replaced to cause a swing from 5-4 to 6-3, you have to think Kennedy is the 4th most liberal justice. I've only seen rankings that have him 5th behind Sotomayor, Ginsburg, Kagan, and Breyer. Which one of those do you think is more conservative than Kennedy? Presumably Breyer?
