Get Startedwonder which Verlander we will see, the pitcher or the thrower.

I just hope we only see him for a few innings.
2 at the most. And that's if he doesn't throw too many. Personally I hope he has a quick 10 pitch inning and calls it a day.
I guess there is the slightest bit of controversy because JV may not be having quite as good a season so far as a few other guys maybe - only 3 or 4 at the most - but that's OK, it's close enough and no single other starter is such a clear standout this season that last year doesn't get to count for something.
Which, considering all those other variables, it absolutely should.
AS players almost always include what the players did the year before. The voting starts towards the beginning of the year and the starters are pretty set about a month before the game. Based on the last 1/2 of of 2011 and this year there isn't another starter that deserves the start over JV.
That would apply to Verlander were he voted in by the fans. He was selected by the manager.
I think managers have the same mentality.....you don't see too many "first 1/2 wonders" starting the AS game. Look at the NL starter....they are starting Cain which reflects this year and last year. If they were looking at this year only they would probably start the "1/2 year wonder" Dickey.
Soooo....seems like maybe in Verlander's case, last season's performance by Verlander may have had some influence (Washington didn't go with his own guy who is arguably off to a little better start) and in the case of Larussa, maybe not so much...
So maybe sometimes it does, and maybe, also, other times it doesn't.
I think that the debate is between Weaver and Verlander. With Price as the third candidate who gets marginalized.
