JV gets start -- All Star game

I'll will not be happy if JV gets anywhere near triple digits with his four-seamer. And were I Washington, I'd go pitch count over innings, with a max of three innings and 36 or so pitches, and who cares about the pitchers he bumps in that case.

It's not likely he will since he usually needs a few innings to build to triple digit speed.

But even if he does, he's still on full rest both before and after, so I can't see what it will hurt, other then his command.

And I can only see 3 guys from the AL deserving a chance to start this years AL game, JV, Sale, and Weaver. Weaver went last year, Sale is still a rookie starter, and I think you have to acknowledge JV's current CY Young/MVP status.

Easy choice IMO.

That last paragraph is probably right.

He looked like Verlander from "08" throwing 100 mph in the 1st inning, and everything was sailing up high.

He came out and said "Thats why I don't try to throw 100 in the 1st inning, it doesn't usually work out too well."

(Quoting off of memory, it was close to that.)

I think he had a plan.

Maybe he figures the Tigers won't get to the WS and he wanted Texas or NYY to have a disadvantage? BTW, does anyone know the record of home teams winning the WS since they made the rule about AS game winner gets home field?

Ahh I heard this yesterday on the radio. It's a pretty sizable advantage to the home field winner...I think it was even more so in game 7's.

Well this was truly like a Tigers start for him, blame bad pitching or horrid defense all you want, but in the end, the offense was a fucking no-show.

I don't think the N.L. pitchers were better, just our hitters terrible, really aside from Prince and Hamilton, nobody even really hit a decent deep fly ball.

These are the best hitters in the game. You have to give the NL pitchers the credit.

noone is mentioning how badly bautista misplayed both those flyballs either.

Not one to quote myself, but you reap what you sow. JV left his brain in his duffel bag last night.

This thread has gone on wayyyy too long. Who gives a fuck about his AS game debacle? Time to move on.

Shame on me for me even adding to the thread.

Agree 100%. I could honestly care less if JV went out there and threw batting practice, so long as he didn't get injured. The All Star game is a joke of an event and I'd prefer our guys didn't even play in it for fear they might get hurt.

Can't have it both ways. When fans are excited that their guy gets the start it is fair to criticize if he lays an egg. I know it doesn't matter but as a Tigers fan I want them to do well. If JV would have gone 2 innings of no hit ball and struck out 6 this thread would be much longer!

I'd be perfectly fine with naming all-stars and not having an all-star game. Treat it like every other award they hand out.

No it isn't. Its an AS game that means nothing. Who gives a shit. And JV even said, he just wanted to have fun knowing he probably wasn't going to pitch well.
