Karma button is a complete joke

I never really even notice the ads. They are just part the page but they don't pop up in a separate window. They don't interfere with reading the posts. As for the karma/smite buttons...who gives a shit about that? If someone smites you then they smite you. Why would that bother anyone?

Went over to espn to see if something was mentioned about all 'this'.
Only a couple of posts about having everyone's IP address. I would think every site has that including espn, and also about a virus.
As for the virus and a poster being able to give one, it is possible but I don't know as much about that stuff. All I can add is that with all the Detroit Tigers and baseball sites I go to to add team and player stories, there has been a problem at a few; motorcitybengals aka mcb-tb, Baseball Digest, Seamheads, and mlb daily dish all at different times a threat is blocked by my anti virus. This made me decide to post a warning to all who read the Tigers team notes about these sites in the past week or two, that is if you click those sites links, to be sure you have a good anti virus on your computers. Using the old one while my newer laptop is being repaired a threat was blocked and the IP was listed to me. It was originated from Germany. Lots of stuff out there to be aware of. Everyone should have a good anti-virus and firewall installed to be safe.

They set up a second account, and just keep exalting themselves all day.

So if it will make you feel better about yourself, you could do that.

I'd start over with a new primary account, too though - negative almost a thousand is a pretty big number to overcome.

And try not being such an asshole the next time around, as well - that might help.

actually, no. i check for duplicate accounts. only two people have tried doing that to pump up their karma. Some people have been given karma because they bring a lot of info to the board, some are really low because they ****ed with Monster. yes, i went third person. lol

anyone want to know what actually happened to tick this guy off?

first, he created a duplicate account a few weeks ago just to smite...every hour, on the hour two or three specific users....users that are well liked here. I deleted his dup account, sent him a message warning him, and he gave me some bs excuse about how it was his roommate's account.

Next, i noticed for a few days, he started smiting the same user every hour on the hour once again. Obviously, the dude's abusing the system. I, for one, don't give a shit about Karma, but some people do, so I increased the smited user's karma to a point where stonecold would get pissed. Of course a few minutes later, I GET SMITED BY STONECOLD. Then again the next hour. So, since he obviously is so in love with Karma, I put him at -999. Then he complained, bitched, and cried. Now I finally see this beauty of a thread.

Well, stonecold, you have your wish. You're banned. If you get a new IP, that will be banned.

And as somebody said, this is a free board. I do not make money from the ads on here, and the only way to get them off is if I pay a nice chunk of change. If you'd like to donate to the cause, I'd be glad to get rid of them.

no, it wasn't you. It was rebbiv, not even sure if he cares about his Karma. But people noticed he was getting tagged, so I stepped in and checked the log.

There was another that he really seemed to have a grudge against, but I forget who it was.

I don't know, I think it's pussy style to mass smite like that. If you have a problem with someone in general, do it on the board for everyone to see or even through PM. I just wish you could tag your name along with the smite so you could at least own up to it.

I think I got six...I predicted the six division winners, and I missed (like everyone or almost everyone) the wild card winners.

I missed on the pennant and WS winners winners...so six is about right...

Seriously and truly, for the value this board provides to we refugees from the Evil 4 Letter board (that's what them at Fox Sports call ESPN) I have to say I wish you were taking down some kind of stipend or remuneration from any revenues it generates, along with the other mods on the board.

That said, maybe you all do quite well, and this is a way of "paying it forward" - I do that, too.

I picked the Cards to make it to the WS, but not to win it, got almost all of the teams right in the NL and AL, except the Rangers did what I thought that the Rays would do instead in the ALDS and ALCS.
