Karma button is a complete joke

I am not quite sure what to say. What did I ever do to Stonecold do deserve all that attention?

As far as I know, I have never "personally attacked" anyone (i.e. slander, etc).

I knew something was going on when I would lose and gain 5 karma points each day. Yes, I am not overly concerned about it, but it did catch my attention, especially when you go from -5 to 128 overnight. Absolutely nothing that would keep me up at night and threaten to stop posting here.

I view karma similar to the "like" button on Facebook. I generally award to someone when they post something thought provoking. And yes, I smite those that make personal attacks and/or generally lame comments. Do I do it often? Certainly not every day.

Hey guys, guess what I just found out.....there are ads at this website!!!

OK...so I knew there were ads here, but I never stopped and looked at them. And they certainly are not the annoying type that get in your way as you navigate a site.

Now on to the technical....one needs to know the vector for you to claim where you got a virus. A website needs to be running active content that is infected. As far as I can tell, there is no active content from this site except from the ads. Being a FREE site, advertisers would lose all kinds of money if it was found that their Java Script ads were causing harm. I seriously doubt this site is potentially harmful.

As KC stated, I strongly recommend using a good Internet Security Suite (Antivirus, spyware, firewall, etc). Web browsers also make a difference. I generally use Google Chrome (FireFox would be the next choice). I occasionally use IE, but usually it is for military or company related sites that are not compatible with Chrome. You can also change your web browser to "block" active content, but this may cause certain web sites not to display what you want to see.

Now, my Internet Security Suite will warn me when I go to a potentially unsafe website. It does not allow me to immediately go there. I have to bypass the warning to go there. This is especially nice when you do a Google search on something and click the link in the results. So if your Internet Security Suite just allows you to go from website to website, you probably either don't have this feature turned on, or it didn't come with this feature.

BLUF...I enjoy posting and doing stat research. I am sure there are some that take offense to my posts, but I usually back it up. I also tend to post against some factual errors made by another, so maybe this doesn't help.

The assumption is we all want what is best for the Detroit Tigers. We differ in opinions as to accomplish this. My wife and two sons vastly have different opinions than I do, but we generally don't attack each other over this (i.e. "You moron", "your an idiot", etc).

For the most part, this board is far better than ESPN when it comes to personal attacks. But seriously, how tough is it to sit at a keyboard and make threatening remarks?

stonecold apparently was smiting me as well around the same time, I mentioned it to KC/Ron in a PM b/c I hadn't gotten into an argument or a heated dispute with anyone here at or around that time, didn't really care, but was just curious to know why you, me and a couple others were getting hit repeatedly at the same time and thought it was very unusual. He wasn't certain about why it was going on, but now we know who, but still not why he did so?

No one "cares". That's why so many mention it :)

Might as well say this now, I noticed all of it. I might not have the best memory of the last week, month or two, but what I see here every day...I kept seeing all you guys dropping in those counts, sometimes overnight by 5/6. I would keep giving all of you points back hourly/daily while here, then would come on the board the following morning and scratch my head and say wtf?
As some of you said, none of you had any arguments with anyone and well, I sent Jessie a message about it, actually I sent maybe 3/4. He got to the bottom of it on several levels.
Even when stonecold was minus a couple I gave him a few plus, then found out what was going on.
Hope that is the end of it, this "toy" we have, I use it to give the points to all who bring good info/discussion here, and like I said elsewhere, also to the few that want to be given points in smites. Whatever makes a good poster happy.
There are posters on these boards that I didn't know from espn, and the info they have on the other sports and the off topic boards is great too.
I have always thought, we are all Tigers and Detroit teams fans, and from a very young age up until 10 or so years ago, I wasn't able to converse with any Detroit fans like this, why argue or 'get even' with a poster that explains/debunks someone's thought on a player with stats.
Being with all of you to read everything Tigers and Detroit sports is a big part of my day.

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
It's up to you, yeah you

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me
Who on earth d'you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Ev'ryone come on

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Ev'ryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're ev'rywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

KalineCountry[/color]]Went over to espn to see if something was mentioned about all 'this'.
Only a couple of posts about having everyone's IP address. I would think every site has that including espn, and also about a virus.
As for the virus and a poster being able to give one, it is possible but I don't know as much about that stuff. All I can add is that with all the Detroit Tigers and baseball sites I go to to add team and player stories, there has been a problem at a few; motorcitybengals aka mcb-tb, Baseball Digest, Seamheads, and mlb daily dish all at different times a threat is blocked by my anti virus. This made me decide to post a warning to all who read the Tigers team notes about these sites in the past week or two, that is if you click those sites links, to be sure you have a good anti virus on your computers. Using the old one while my newer laptop is being repaired a threat was blocked and the IP was listed to me. It was originated from Germany. Lots of stuff out there to be aware of. Everyone should have a good anti-virus and firewall installed to be safe.

Some decent and free tools that I have downloaded and use for protection from and scanning for viruses, malware, tracking cookies, and spyware when or after browsing/downloading software on the www and using a Windows OS with "administrator" privileges, including browsing with a much greater degree of privacy:

The ideal way to scan a Windows OS is when it is not activated, and is dormant, so scanning for viruses, trojans, and especially rootkits with a bootable CD or thumbdrive with software that has up to date definitions and tools is my recommendation.

Linux and Unix OSes have far less need for protection when browsing, but the primary reason why is b/c the vast majority of people use a Windows OS and most often do so with an account default as "root" or superuser/administrators at home. Linux Unix OSes give more limited abilities by default when first installed in a HDD partition or USB thumbdrive (portability) by creating a SN and GUI desktop, and you need to use the command line with a root password in a terminal to download and install software, not to mention adding permissions when the software is not regarded or recognized as being a valid package by the particular distro that is being used.
