We will see if my prediction skills suck ass or not. But, it would make perfect sense as to why they keep gunther. Mayhew wants to keep the defense at a 4-3. Ken probably would want a 3-4. So they are going to try to let gun just handle the D. And ken will take care of everything else. He fits just about every detail we want outside of the style of defense he would run. Which we probably would end up switching if it works out..just the lions have too much on the line to make such a huge change by next year.

ken wouldn't want a 3-4. Its dependant on who his dcord is. You keep Gunther on staff until ken wants him gone so he can bring in his own guy. Gunther is 99.99% gone unless for some reason Ken cant get his guy here. Assuming Ken is our coach ofcourse.

We pointed out last week that San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt would be a prime candidate to take over in Detroit if the Lions ousted Jim Schwartz.

Now we know that is indeed the case.

Citing people who have received calls from the Lions, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports the organization has been calling around, checking Whisenhunt's references. Detroit's interest is "very strong," per Rapoport.

Whisenhunt cannot be interviewed until the Chargers are eliminated from the playoffs.

Having steered the Cardinals to the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, he's an obvious candidate to attempt the same feat with the Lions. His tutelage of Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner has to be appealing to a front office that has a raw but exceptionally talented Matthew Stafford locked up through the 2017 season.

Rapoport later reported the Lions will interview Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell on Friday, per a source close to the coach. Although the team has also done background work on Seahawks assistant head coach/offensive line Tom Cable, an official interview request has not been forthcoming.

i wouldn't mindwhisenhunt or Caldwell. though I'd like to see them go after Cowher or Dungy. At least put out feelers to see if there is any interest

If you guys ever want to intentionally give yourselves a migraine, go onto the Lions Facebook page and read some of the threads. That's why I'm so thankful we have decent minded people here. One guy said his candidates were, Billick, Gruden, Dungy, Cowher, and Whisenhut. Oh and there's this gem...

"I will admitt he is not top 5 on my list but for a reason but some of ya'll r some STONE COLD IDIOTS!!! U talk about dis is the Rooney Rule and Indy fired him for a reason but DA SAME JACCASSES was jus on here wantin Gurden when he was let go for a reason and he only won 1 in Tampa when Caldwell help Flacco win 1 and got him an extention when ppl said Flacco would neva win 1 ummmm............. smells fishy"

u know oddly that sounds like Hoopster

It makes me cringe when people butcher the English language to that extent. It's one thing to talk like that (product of where you grew up) but another to actually write and type like that.

I hope the OPs prediction is correct.

I also don't get the infatuation some people have with Dungy. He couldn't get the Bucs over the hump and only won 1 Super Bowl with one of the best owner/GM combos in the league.

I don't think Dungy is the greatest but he would be better than any other candidate other than Cowher. Dungy made the biggest laughing stock into a winner and Gruden won with his team. Then he goes to Indy and turns them into Super Bowl champs after a team that's coach said "Playoffs, Playoffs, I just hope we can win a damn game". If he came and made the Lions a playoff team every year I would be fine with 1 Super Bowl win.

You don't think he would want a 3-4? I know he is an offensive guy but since Pit in 2001 (
+Ari, SD) its been a 3-4 on the other side of the ball.

I think we can be okay in a 3-4. Won't be perfect right away but we still have a draft and it gives us lots of options. Also doesn't mean we won't run a 4-3 at times.

No Mitch. We wouldn't want to try to confuse the other team. Rush 4. Drop back in soft coverages.....that's the way to win in the NFL.
