Ken Whisenhunt will be our coach

I don't want to trade him. I want to keep him. But from a business standpoint, what sign an extension now? Injury would be the only thing. Hitting the FA market will be huge for Suh.

Injury (1). Wanting to stay with the team that drafted him two (some people don't like change), Lions still can give him a big deal (3). Scheme (this depends on new staff, 4).

If he makes up his mind, dead set on free agency, you have to trade him to salvage something. The one thing the restructures did do, can't franchise him.

Hes got to be over all the image talk. He could also be thinking in order to change his image he needs a different environment.

On our side is the fact I think he likes playing with fairley.

New DC could play an important role on if he stays or goes.....im kinda of hoping for washburn to be honest so theres some familiarity there.

Players love Zimmer and he's done well with their Dline. I think Zimmer could keep Suh here.

i think hed be smart enough to realize our entire front 7 personnel is fit for the 4-3. If we are a 3-4 defense next year it just strengthens the fact that mayhew should be fired. If whiz becomes our coach his main focus should be winning with the team he has....Not running the 3-4 just because a team he was coaching 10 years ago did.

This team is fit for a 4-3 because thats what we ran last year, but as you've said many times they aren't very good at it so if they struggle early it wont be much of a drop in production. a team he was coaching 10 years ago did it? You do know that San Diego and Arizona run a 3-4 right? so its the last 10 years. Suh Fairley will be 2 gaping so there will be a drop but its not like they were killing it in a 4-3, if we get a power pig in the middle that needs to be doubled they will get 1v1 match ups and have shown they are disruptive in that situation. We are just as close to a 3-4 as we are a 4-3. Oh and when Whis got to Ari he switched them to a 3-4, I am expecting the same when he comes here (and I think gun has experience with it in KC so that might be why he is still around....for now).

actually i saw it on yahoo's main page while attending Church this morning at Mt. Haley, Church of God here in Midland

Thanks for way too much information.

Nobody cares where you go to church, or why you're looking at the yahoo main page while attending services. Have some fuckin respect.

I think the Wiz sealed his deal today. It's up to him because he's got his pick of teams.

Do they even bring in Jay Gruden?

looks like gruden is on our short list.

Sources: Lions eye Ken Whisenhunt

The Detroit Lions' head coaching job is Ken Whisenhunt's to lose, sources close to the situation told ESPN.

Whisenhunt, the San Diego Chargers' offensive coordinator, and Lions general manager Martin Mayhew spent two seasons as teammates with the Washington Redskins in 1989 and 1990.

Those who worked with Whisenhunt in Arizona are convinced that the former Cardinals head coach is going to impress Lions ownership with his presentation.

Detroit already knows what Whisenhunt did to revive the careers of quarterbacks Kurt Warner and Philip Rivers.

The Lions would want Whisenhunt to have equally successful results with Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford, who threw 11 interceptions over his last six games this season.

Detroit's coaching wish list also includes Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, sources told ESPN. The Chargers posted a 27-10 victory over the Bengals in the AFC wild-card round Sunday in Cincinnati.

The Lions cannot hire Whisenhunt until after the Chargers' season is over. San Diego will play the Denver Broncos next weekend in the divisional round.

Whisenhunt, 51, went 45-51 in six seasons with Arizona, coaching the Cardinals to the only Super Bowl appearance in franchise history following the 2008 season.

After being fired by the Cardinals after last season, Whisenhunt spent this season with the Chargers, who reached the playoffs thanks largely to Rivers' comeback season.

The 32-year-old Rivers struggled over the last two years but was outstanding this season, finishing among the top five in the NFL in passing yards, touchdowns and quarterback rating.

The Lions are seeking a replacement for Jim Schwartz, who was fired Monday following a late-season collapse during which Detroit lost six of its last seven games.

Schwartz went 7-9 this season and 29-51 overall in five years with the Lions.

Not thrilled with the candidates available or that they have coming in. Oh well Schwartz had to go. Just sign Wiz when his season is done and get it over with.

As long as they learned their lesson about extending a coach after one decent season, I'm not too worried.

who will be the OC and DC?

for the DC I still like Seattle's Secondary Coach Kris Richard
for the OC I like Greg Knapp as the OC from Denver

So far the DC is Gunther, that may change depending on who they bring in. If its Whis maybe Jay Gruden as OC or Reich?
