As a corner?

How many of the best corners in the game would you describe as big hitters? When did that become the primary function of a man to man cover corner?

Safety, sure. But is taking a corner in the first round and converting him to safety really the best option?

Antoine Winfield for about 10 years. But I would rather have a smaller Janoris Jenkins who gets whiffed and mauled at the l.o.s and gets posterized by a bigger receiver all day than an athletic freak who can jam effectively, run with a sub 4.4 receiver, out jump 90% of receivers in the league and absolutely crush people.
You have absolutely no idea what it takes to be a good corner in the NFL. Who cares if Dre can out jump receivers, HE HAS POOR BALL SKILLS lol. That size didn't do much for him in college.

And you think Jenkins can't cover big receivers? Are you kidding? Check out Janoris vs Julio Jones: 4 catches, 19 yards
http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=302750333

or AJ Green: 1 catch, -2 yards
http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=303030061

Please, learn a little about the corner position.

AJ and Julio were what 18/19 years old at the time? Look at Mcelroy's numbers. lol He completed only 11 passes, So I guess for Julio to get a cunthair under a 1/4 of them isn't bad.. And AJ had 4 for 42 and a TD, not 1 for -1.. Where did that come from? Oh I see.. RUSHING. You clearly know nothing about how to read a boxscore.

Show me Dre's poor ball skills. When a person is that athletic he will continue to develop. He has size, speed, jumping ability, good hips, and great tackling ability. He's a football player first and foremost. Janitor Jenkins will be using turpentine in 2 years time.

Good call on the AJ Green stat. My bad. Either way, 4 for 42 is bad for AJ Green. Jenkins shut him down about as well as you could ask for.

Anyways, 18 or 19? WTF are you talking about? Those two tore up the NFL THE NEXT YEAR. Jenkins is a stud. What elite WR has Dre shut down?

Jenkins or Kirkpatrick would automatically start at CB2 on this pathetic dbackfield.

you're arguing apples and oranges...gimme either of the at 23 and Id be happy.

Vince 'Invincible' Papale would start in our secondary. Maybe the Lions should hold open tryouts.

I'm with you, LP and agree with everything you've said in regards to this debate. I don't really want anything to do with Dre as I don't think hes a good fit for our scheme.

IMO he would be a beast in Pittsburgh or somewhere like that but on a team that makes him play man for 40 snaps a game he will get eaten alive trying to stay with top tier route runners.

Don Banks SI Mock
Dre Kirkpatrick
Pick #7 Jaguars

I'm moving off of North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples to the Jaguars for now, because while he's a freak athletically, some teams are worried that his so-so season and strong Senior Bowl week make him a risky proposition. By comparison, Kirkpatrick is seen as one of the safer top-10 picks, with the needed blend of size, athleticism and physicality to play coverage in today's pass-happy NFL.

Dre belongs in a press coverage, tampa 2 type defense. Dude is a stud in run support....hes better the closer he is to the los. Putting him on an island is no bueno.

Jenkins is the fourth corner off the board in this mock. After Claiborne, Dre, Stephon Gilmore (which I assume is Steve Urkel's alter ego). You don't go top ten if you can't cover man to man.

Jenkins will go before gilmore.....gilmore wont look good this week and jenkins might just look the best as far as drills and footwork go.

Don't know much about Gilmore other than seeing a few SC games. He didn't stand out to me but the draftniks are saying he will test well.

This is why I doubt Dre goes in the top 10.

Also, that guy is crazy to have Gilmore that high. No way.

4. I think whoever takes Janoris Jenkins, the former Florida cornerback who finished his career at North Alabama, is going to have some sleepless nights. He's 23. He's a top talent, and likely will go in the first round. He's also been arrested three times, once for a bar fight and twice for marijuana possession. He has four children three or younger (Janoris Jr., Legend, Janorian and Paris) by three different mothers. "I've made a few mistakes and I've learned from them,'' he said at the combine. Question is, who will take a shot on a very good talent at a vital position, who is such a risk?

when I read that the first thing that flashed into my head was the Antonio Cromartie interview on Hard Knocks a couple years ago where he was naming off all his children and was like

"keesha, shaniqua, trevonte, devonte, shonte, ummmmm oh yeah, nikesha, ummmmmmm"

fuckin clowns never hear of a condom or what?
