Don't you want to see Ngata play first? Maybe he becomes Julian Peterson and declines.
Ngata is a beast. He won't decline at 31. He was a beast last year. An extension doesn't make him untradeable or uncuttable if he really declines at 33 or 34. But even a declined Ngata is probably good. I don't think he'll decline this year especially.
Also it would lower his cap number this year. More carryover for next year and more room for this for the top 53 (meaning we won't have to restructure Tate), no worries on franchising or a new contract next year.
Many reasons to extend Ngata. Mayhew said he really wanted too. He's seen enough.
Peterson was never on Ngatas level either and they are different positions. Ngata is also surrounded by much more talent than Peterson was in 2009.
