5.5 million in cap space. We'll miss you Nate. Wish you stayed a little healthier but you were a good leader and productive.

2 WRs coming up for Detroit this offseason.

I thought they would keep him around for less money. Let's see what else they have up their sleeve.

According to Spotrac and Overthecap, this will put them about 200k under the projected cap in 2014.

With a Suh restructure and Delmas cut/restructure they could probably clear out another 10 million or so.

I expect something to be done with Delmas in the near future, don't see them keeping him around at 6.5 million which is mostly non-guaranteed base salary.

They could get 6-8 miilion in room extending Suh, 6 million cutting Delmas. 12 million under on the low conservative end for that. But I thought we were in cap hell. Silly me.

They are in cap hell dumbass. The mere fact they have to restructure to make even that happen is by definition CAP HELL! And restructures just prolongs and perpetuates the Cap Hell. If they were not in cap hell, they would actually be able to sign all the upcoming draft picks AND be serious players in FA. Alas, they are not serious players. Why?

BECAUSE THEY ARE IN CAP HELL!

I thought they were $6M over going into the off season (for 2014 cap)? Doesn't cutting Burelson get them to about even?

The Lions don't have to restructure. You're not reading carefully. They just cut Burleson, they'll probably cut Delmas, and then they either let Suh play out his contract or extend him. The Lions don't have a lot of cap space, but I wouldn't call it cap hell.

They can be serious players in free agents. They can get a decent safety, CB or WR. Easily. That's why they will create room with Suh EXTENSION. That is not a restructure, EXTENSION.

Restructures are tools to use if you do it wisely. And Detroit has.

You are the one who does'nt understand how much room they can create, what the cap numbers actually are and how many options Detroit has. They are going younger at WR. They replaced Avril and Gosder just fine. They'll do the same with Burleson who missed 17 games the last 2 years anyway.

The Lions are far from cap hell. Like all teams they have a tight cap, but they have plenty of options.

And zyxt you do realize, well of course you don't which is why you think we are in cap hell, Quin, Jones and Bush were a combined 7.5 million in cap room last year. Burleosn, Delmas and Suh extension will be 12 million in room at least. A Calvin or Tulloch restrucutre could give us more too adding a mere 800 K and 650 K to their cap numbers each year. Draft picks due to the top 51 rule will only count about 2.5 million. Plenty of room for several free agents and the draft picks.

If you actually knew anything about the Lions cap situation, you would know they are not in cap hell.

You see three giant numbers (number that aren't static like Suhs' 22 million number or Stafford 20 million last year (which became 17 by the way)) and it boggles your little minds. But the Lions know what they are doing and will manipualte the cap perfectly.

I'd consider "cap hell" as a situation where you have to do multiple restructures, eat bad contracts, and cut a few good players for the sole purpose of getting under the cap for just one off-season. That's not the case with the Lions.

The Saints are probably a team that's close to "cap hell"

From what I have read as of the beginning of the year they had $135M going against the 2014 cap which is supposed to be $126M. That is $9M over. That is only counting the players that are under contract for 2014 and not including what they will need to pay their draft pics. I assume that there are some free agents that will need to be replaced (Dom was already signed but I don't know how much). Cutting Nate cut $5.5M as there will be $2M in dead money from his contract. It seems that they are still $4.5M over the 2014 cap, have free agents to replace and draft picks to sign.

Nice savings..and I agree cap hell. Regardless if you think they are or aren't we're not sitting pretty when it comes to the cap. Many more team's are in better shape.

I'd love to see us go after Emmanuel Sanders in FA and get Watkins or Evans in the draft. Hell, even Jordan Matthews would be a good pick in round 2. I know some people really like him on here, but I don't think he's fast enough to get into round 1. With sanders and one of those 3 draft picks and the offense should be set for a few years.

Chances are though that we draft a raw DE in the first round, a TE in the second, a 5-8 WR to play the slot in the 3rd round, and then a bunch of special teams guys, though. Then we roll with Durham on the outside for the whole year. We'll see.

Overthecap just updated their Lions page

They have the Lions at about 124.5MM now after the Burleson cut

Many of the teams that are well off have their best players still playing out their rookie contracts.

True. But for a team who has 11 wins in two years I'd hope we'd have a better cap situation. Unlucky to draft so high before the new rookie pay scale.

Ugh.

1) Cap is adjusted for carryover from last year and LTBE bonuses
2) top 51 rule and Lions have close to 51 already. Which is why draft picks will only count 2.5 million and not full 6 million additional
3) vet min deduction (Mathis,Idonije,Akers,Muhlbach,McIntosh etc), look it up and then consider top 51 rule. They won't be additional or very little
4) Lions should be under now with this move. See link below with everyone's cap number.
5) people need to learn how restructures actually work. A Calvin restructure for 3.2 million adds a mere 800 K to his cap number the next 4 years. They only hurt badly if you want to cut him, which we don't
6) Suh extension is not a restructure. An extension is a good thing
