Lions cut Burleson

I may be reading it wrong but there are only 51 players listed and it doesn't count the $3.5M of dead money listed at the bottom of the page. For sure not Best and Nate's $3M+

Right, they're looking at around 128MM for a total cap figure

maybe they can restructure Houston and Delmas? trade Leshoure to free up cap space

There is no guarantee an extension gets done for Suh. We are assuming that is going to take place.

Delmas is on the books for $2.3 million regardless of being cut.

Leroy Harris ($1.85 million), defensive end Jason Jones ($2 million) and offensive tackle Corey Hilliard ($1.65 million) could be casualties.

They could restructure the contract of Calvin Johnson. Reduce 2014 base salary and paying the difference up front as a bonus. The cap hit from the bonus money is spread out evenly over the length of his contract. However, this catch's up to you in the end but may be a smart move depending how well they draft and who we can pickup cheap via FA.

Lions two important restricted free agents are running back Joique Bell and wide receiver Kris Durham.

There is also Nick Fairley's rookie contract but that is not up until 2015. Still, a decision that needs to be looked into. He is a heck of a player when he is not getting stupid penalties.

Cap Hell? No, just difficult decisions to make. This is a critical draft to say the least. Have to get it right this year.

If you don't know the top 51 rule or vet min deduction rule or how a restructure actually works, don't bother talking about the cap. You'll look like an idiot.

Oooo oooo big number, me scared, me so scared.

They're still about 200k over, but that's easily fixable.

Delmas cut(6 million) and let him test the market. Bet he comes back cheap if we want him. Suh extension (6-8 million), Calvin restructure (3.2 ), Harris cut (2 million), Leshoure trade (900k).

So many options for cap room. Tulloch or Quin could be restructured too but may be unnecessary.

Don't know what you're talking about

somebody had posted somethign where you can take a roster and trade or cut, restructure a player and it would show the result from the real roster and salary caps. sort of like how ESPN has on their NBA page

Agree. However, my math tells me cutting Delmas = 5.5 mil cap relief. Peanuts considering. We are in pretty good shape overall.

I'll be honest I know little about cap numbers and dead money etc. But you talk like we're in great shape. And that can't be true.

1) Cap is adjusted for carryover from last year and LTBE bonuses
2) top 51 rule and Lions have close to 51 already. Which is why draft picks will only count 2.5 million and not full 6 million additional
3) vet min deduction (Mathis,Idonije,Akers,Muhlbach,McIntosh etc), look it up and then consider top 51 rule. They won't be additional or very little
4) Lions should be under now with this move. See link below with everyone's cap number.
5) people need to learn how restructures actually work. A Calvin restructure for 3.2 million adds a mere 800 K to his cap number the next 4 years. They only hurt badly if you want to cut him, which we don't
6) Suh extension is not a restructure. An extension is a good thing

why isn't Raiola's number included on that list? Does his contract not count?

Cutting Delmas and extending Suh should be enough to cover whatever they need in the off-season. Should give them enough room to make a couple Quin/Bush-type signings.

Depends how much he signed for, they don't have that and usually are the quicket up to date.. 500 k to 1 million additional. for Raiola. But like I said the Lions have a ton of options.

They will be active in free agency. Burleson and Delmas gone. Plenty of money for free agents. And Delmas like last year, could test the market and wind up back here.

Bethea, Clemons, good CB or WR, pick 2 with the cap space they will have.

I don't believe his contract details have come out yet. His cap number was around 3MM last year and I doubt a "slight raise" would put it much higher.

Agreed but if they want one of the top nams, Calvin restructure makes it easier. Calvin, Tulloch and cut Harris means you don't rely solely on Suh extension. Lots of options.

Word from CBS is Delmas is cut too. Let him test the market like last year.

"I know Louis Delmas, watching him play, he can be a difference-maker," Austin said.

Just not with us I guess.

Never know, he might've agreed to be cut so they could bring him back for cheap. Or he could just not come back at all. Doesn't matter all that much to me.
