Lions cut Burleson

It's more than that. They know we don't have a tradition of winning, year after year, decade after decade, coach after coach.

As far as the starting part, so we'll go after players who can start here that wouldn't elsewhere? Not sure I like that.

I just don't see where the sell is..

Didn't stop Bush, Quin or Jones. Nobody gives a crap of any of the Lions past teams. They care about 2014.

They don't have to live here in the winter. Most players go elsewhere.

You have no clue what players think about any playing situation. You only have your own opinion.

that's true. The Lions don't play post season football so the players can bolt after week 17!

I bet there have been players who turned us down for one of those reasons..

Well if they are in the playoffs, they won't mind the winter. Super bowl week is usually in a warm climate.

Like I said, each situation is unique.

Maybe a player is familiar with Caldwell or Austin or Lombardi

Maybe they were college teammates with a current Lions player

Maybe they're looking to start or have little competition at the position they play

I doubt every player looks at the "tradition of winning" and makes a decision based off that. I'm sure some players look at this as a fresh situation and the past doesn't matter, others might write the Lions off because of their history.

Who knows...we aren't in these FAs heads, we don't know what sways their decisions

You might not care or even think it's a problem, lkp, but I certainly do. This is not a sought out place to go.

The reason I mention it is we don't seem too get those great free agent signs. Maybe the wrong situation, not enough money, for a better deal elsewhere but I think they do look at few opportunities in the playoffs and never a SB contender.

We might not be in this heads but I can take an educated guess.

Guess it's just me.

Well I won't even pretend to know what goes into the decision making process for these free agents, so I'll refrain from guessing.

What the hell!!!! Every receiver that was responsible for the shredding of the Pats secondary (during that 18-1 season) in the superbowl is a free agent now? Those jokers hands were like gorilla glue when manning threw passes to them.

Is Hakeem Nicks all of a sudden garbage now? Or did he just give up on the giants? Dudes hands were pretty amazing if only for a stretch of time.

Catchable passes would be my guess.

how do you know it was xanders and now mayhew

He doesn't, but he likes to mess around with LKP by saying it was Xanders decision. And it might've been influenced by Xanders, who knows? But he'll never give Mayhew any credit as long as Xanders is here. But honestly could care less who gets the credit as long as the Lions start winning more games, both in the playoffs and regular season.

That's all that matters.

There weren't many smart decisions before Xanders got here. Xanders comes...we nail our first draft in forever and were off to a great start this offseason. Coincidence?!!! I think not!!!! and ya...I love seeing LKP freak out :D

I do think Xanders played a big part in our successful 2013 draft, I'm just not going automatically giving him credit for every personnel decision we make from here on out. But again, I don't really care who gets the credit as long as we make good decisions regarding personnel and start winning.

it won't be because they are a winning organization
it won't be because Detroit is a great place to live in the winter

There are probably only a handfull of teams that FA think are worse destinations than Detroit

Pffffffffffttttttt ........bahahahahahahaaaaaaa!!! WOW!!
