Lions cut Burleson

The reason I mention it is we don't seem too get those great free agent signs. Maybe the wrong situation, not enough money, for a better deal elsewhere but I think they do look at few opportunities in the playoffs and never a SB contender.

We might not be in this heads but I can take an educated guess.

Guess it's just me.

Not too many teams let their "great" players sign elsewhere anyways. So by saying this guy doesn't want to come here because it's too cold, or we don't win is all blowing smoke out of your fn asses. There are msny factors why players sign and don't sign with certain teams.

I realize that. I just get tired of the same product year after year..

I'm in surrounded by dumbass hell

If you don't know the top 51 rule or vet min deduction rule or how a restructure actually works, don't bother talking about the cap. You'll look like an idiot.

Oooo oooo big number, me scared, me so scared.

Hey Fucktard, it isn't just the number, it is the %. Continue acitng like the biggest fucking dildo on the planet all you want, you cannot change the FACT no team has ever won with such a high %, and all signs point to no team ever will. They are at almost 40% with the big 3 and until they bring that as close to 30% as possible, they will NEVER win the Super Bowl.

Of course they will field a team and be under the cap. That is a mandate from the NFL. No one is arguing that they will be under the cap. The problem is that because of the high % of the big 3, the quality of the team is a huge problem.

But go ahead and continue being the Boards King Fucktard Know-It-All about cap and salary and blah, blah, blah. You know what all that means? JACK FUCKING SHIT!!!

Quality of the team comes from the draft buddy. Not the amount of overpriced free agents you can sign. No matter what you pay Calvin, Suh and stafford, there will be draft picks EVERY year. You need to hit on them and get those guys cheap for 4 years. Plus the Lions have been very active in free agency with Calvin, Stafford and Suh already on 3 big contracts. The Loins front office knows when to extend and knows when to restructure. Stafford had a 20 million number last year before his extension but at the time we signed Levy, Quin, Bush and Jones.

The problem is you guys don't understand how it works and can't see how the pieces already fit. You just change the players, Delmas/Burleson are replaceable and become some other free agnent or draft pick. Peterman becomes Warford, Gosder becomes Waddle, Backus becomes Reiff, Avril becomes Ansah. Young could become Taylor. The Lions can field plenty of mid level guys despite the 3 big contract (hint Stafford and Calvin are on new deals already and Suh right now is on a 12 million per year deal that is restructured twice).

The % is meaningless. It's about continuing to draft well and being smart in free agency. The Lions will have room for a good veteran free agent or 2. And this all they need plus the draft.

And the fact that a Suh extension gives the Lions the most cap room so they can pursue free agents, should make you want him extended.

Dude, get a grip. Cut the namecalling and crap unless you want to get banned from the board. You have an opinion that the Lions can't win until their top 3 players are earning less. Some people agree with you, and some people agree with LKP in this argument. I'd lean towards agreeing that it is possible to win a Super Bowl with 3 guys like Suh, Stafford, and Calvin making what they are. It obviously makes it more difficult, but like LKP says, a lot of it is about drafting.

In his defensE, lkp started with the "I'm in dumbass hell".

In any event, we need rooks that can show up right away. No injury prone or someone who goes to the PS for two years.

We need that if we sign Suh or not. And we'll also need a DT and someone to be the best pass rusher on defense. And Fairley to get his inconsistent head out of his ass.

Absolutely agree that much depends on how well they draft again. If they can hit not only this year, but also next, then I could see them having a shot because they would have three years of solid rookies under the rookie cap. Then they could actually start Thinking they have the draft figured out so if they lose some guys coming off the rook contract they can potentially bring replacements in through the next draft. But they are really rolling thr dice with that as last year was thr anomaly historically for the Lions.

If they do hit on the draft again with Xanders, they better pay that man a seven figure bonus to make sure they keep him around. Maybe the Lions can get solid drafts back to back, and then pray for a third time next year and become Super Bowl contenders. Historically that would be a first for the team, hitting three straight drafts. Sure a couple might not pan out, but getting 4 starters or solid backups who get quality time on the field each year would for me be a success rate that exceeds expectations. If they only get 3 of that type each draft it might work out if the others can still provide some type of depth like ST, Dime DB, #4 or even #5 WR, #3 TE...something more than benchwarmer or Practice Squad fodder.

I get the biggest boner whenever LKP says something remotely negative about any Detroit Lion (the same goes thing happens when Hughes says something positive).

Carry on.

I agree with that. I'm just hoping we have some draft consistency. We need multiple drafts of 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks who produce early.

You always want to hit on every pick you can. Doesn't always happen. 2-3 per draft works though.

And if we get a Bethea/Clemons type safety/Willie Young(back) in free agency(Jones healthy), hit on a stud Round 1 WR and Houston/Slay get it together, I don't think Round 2-4 will be that crucial right away at least. But hitting on 2 of those 3 would be great of course too.

But even if we only get 2 starters out of the draft, we need more guys who are drafted to contribute on special teams and be solid backups. Getting 2 to 3 guys who play at all isn't a good draft.

Just to make a point...

ANY players you draft in rounds 1-2 should be immediate starters, or you have a major problem with your war room.

ANY player you draft in round 3 should be close to starter material, and should play right away regardless.

Round 4 is a perfect place to find starting offensive linemen.

Round 5 is a perfect place to find young safeties and running backs that can play right away, even if they can't start right away.

Round 6-7 are usually development rounds, where you are drafting a guy you hope to groom for the future.

If you have 7 picks, and come away with less than 3 starters and 2 immediate players, you've had a bad draft.

That's pretty much what I feel. First and second round automatic starters unless maybe it's a QB for the future. Third round should be starters down the road but some production right away. 4th and 5th that can produce at some level. 6th and 7th raw that has at least one thing going for them (speed, hands, maybe a K) or ST.

Clearly it hasn't worked out to be a good pick.

Every indication from his medical exams was that he would be healthy for training camp. That obviously didn't happen.

But when you have a guy who has set the NCAA record for receptions.. you expect him to be able to contribute immediately. His ongoing injuries couldn't be anticipated.

Had I been calling the picks that day, I think he would have been a Lion still. Hindsight being what it is, it's been a bad pick, but those guys don't have crystal balls.

not even talking about his bad string of injuries. Im just going off what you said. rds 1 or 2 should be immediate starters. He had cj nate and titus infront of him. therefor he was never going to be anything more than the 4th wr on the field.

Well personally not sure I draft a slot guy in the second. Healthy or not though he was still coming off an injury. Second was too high.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand back to Broyles. You rip on LKP for bringing up 2011 Chris Houston but still constantly bring up the Broyles pick.

We get it. Bad pick so far. Happens to EVERYONE.

Move on.
