Lions get Ngata in trade

Didn't BYU run a 3-4 while Van Noy was there?

I think so. He's considered a good cover guy and a solid blitzer.....at least that's what remember them saying during the draft last year.

Good player.....hope he steps up as a playmaker this year.

4th and 5th for a 1 year rental....had to be done i guess but this will look much better if we can extend him. Only 8.5 mil charged to us this year i believe.

4th and 5th are mostly throwaway.. We also get a 7th..

4th and 5th for a rental and a 7th.

I would put money down on an extension within the next 72 hours, and one that probably lowers the cap impact this year since they still have work to do.

Even if it's just a year.....it's a damn good insurance policy.

The previous 4 game ban scares me. He's one failed test away from a year suspension.

I'm not at all worried about the suspension for ADHD meds.

The rate of repeat offenders in the drug program is incredibly low. Ricky Williams and Josh Gordon are anomalies. Most guys are smart enough not to lose millions for banned substances.

His age concerns me more than the suspension, but that is of concern too. Still, pretty much had to be done to get people back into opinion Lions have a shot. They should still consider DT early in draft, but depends on if they can fix OL issues in FA. Lots more work to do before this offseason can be considered a success, but this is a good start, probably best start possible since Suh wasn't coming back. However, since Suh isn't official to Miami yet, gotta wonder if he isn't wondering how good the D would be with him and Ngata in the middle. Lol.

We definitely don't have the money now for Suh. Anyway ngata had a pretty good year and only two more years older. .

I think this may be better than resigning Suh.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper, no headaches, allows us to sign other players, isn't much of a drop off in talent if any. Amazing deal, just wow.
Sucks for the Ravens, but as they say once you pay the QB you can't keep everyone.

Add the Super Bowl ring too, that alone is needed on this team. Need more players who have them to help the team take the next step. Always helps to infuse proven champions.

As for the age, typically teams prefer getting the guy 2 years younger. If they do get Ngata to agree to a multi-year contract it would pretty much cover his remaining All-Pro potential years, which I think is 3...4 max. He's a great player, byt hooefully the Lions do better job preparing for when he eventually is not too talent or no longer a Lion.

If they do extend him, 3 years max.

I agree, almost totally. The headache potential is still there, its just a different kind. If he screws up he's looking at a long suspension for substance abuse program. I am really happy about this move, though.

Ngata is a good replacement. Guy on the downside of his prime, not at Suhs level anymore but still better than the majority of options.

Adequate replacement for suh IMO, they'll be fine need to improve that o line and offense now front office brass chumps
