Lions get Ngata in trade

I like Ngata. The Lions need to work out some sort of extention with him. We will be in the same boat next year when placing a tag in him will cost us $20 mil or did we give up two picks for a one yr rental?

Would it cost 20 million. His cap hit is 8.5 million for us. It might just be the normal DT tag number for us.

.

I haven't found any info in this yet. I don't know if the calculation is based on total cap hit had he stayed a Raven, or if it's based on his current cap hit in Detroit. Pretty significant as it's about an $8MM difference.

good question. My guess is it is the player's total cap hit...not just what the team that franchised the player is responsible for.

I think it's based on what he co u nts this year, which is 16 plus

It would be a nice loophole. Just extend him but that has some risk too if he doesn't work out in 2015.

Basically instead of restructuring people and franchising Suh, we franchised Ngata for a 4th/5th.

Suh contract. 6 million 2015, 28 million 2016 and 15 million cap hit 2017

25.5 signing bonus. 2015-2017 all guranteed base salary

22 million, 24 million and 18 million in the non-guranteed last 3 years (2018-2020).

Lions could have handled that but would move 8 million from year 2 into year 3 to make that work. 6 million is less than Ngata's money.

but it would have cost 16 + mil for Baltimore to keep him from what I was reading. So I think his cap number on a tag would be like 19-20 mil.

that being said....even if were stuck franchising him at 20 mil next year cause mayhew cant get it done. 28 mil for 2 years of service isn't a horrible contract for ngata....14 per.

I'm not sure if any of the Ngata franchise tag talk matters...They should probably figure out what they're doing with Levy first, which may or may not include the tag.

They were talking of extending Levy already. They could do that without changing his 2015 4 million cap number much (may be less).

However, you may want to wait to see how he plays with Ngata instead of Suh.

If a player has a prescription for Aderall, they can (and have) appeal a suspension and have it removed. Aderall is not considered a PED so long as the player gives prior warning that he will be taking it, and has a medical reason.

The facts are that the league does not release the test results for players that fail. The players (and agents/teams) are the ones that "release" that kind of info. The most likely scenario is that Ngata was actually busted for steroids, but spun it as Aderall for the press.

Doubtful in this case. His team also confirmed it was for Adderall.

Ngata admitted taking the substance without a prescription. He has no use-exemption for it. He said he was using it during heavy practices to keep awake at night and spend time with his three sons.

The NFL advised him he could get a "therapeutic" use-exemption even for that, he decided not to. I doubt they would have advised him to seek an exception for Adderall if he was busted for steroids.

Possible, for sure. The NFL could also be protecting it's brand. It would hardly be the first time the league looked the other way or tried to spin the press about a Ravens player. The fact that the team corroborated the report means absolutely nothing to me given what we know about the Ravens now.
