Javhids noggin had got them worried.....

Jahvid Best - RB - Lions

According to MLive.com's Anwar Richardson, "many within the (Lions') organization" are concerned whether Jahvid Best (concussions) will play football again.
The line was a throw-in during a Senior Bowl roundup, so we're not quite sure what to make of it. Richardson does note that the Lions interviewed Boise State's Doug Martin, Ohio State's Dan Herron, and Washington's Chris Polk in Mobile. Lions GM Martin Mayhew recently stated that the team is "very optimistic" about Best's future, but there may be more internal concern than he let on.

I like Polk what round is he predicted to go? There are quite a few decent options in FA this year.

ESPN's Todd McShay said on SportsCenter Wednesday that Washington RB Chris Polk's draft stock has dropped more than any player at the Senior Bowl.
McShay suggested that Polk put on too much weight before reporting to Mobile. "He just has not shown that same explosiveness and burst that I was used to seeing at Washington," said McShay. "I think he's added a little weight, up to 224 pounds. I expected a little bit more out of him." Polk, listed at 222 as a Husky, measured 5-foot-11, 224 during Monday's weigh-in

but then you see a different story from the guys who actually do the coaching on Polk....

MOBILE, Ala. -- Running backs Chris Rainey of Florida and Chris Polk of Washington were singled out for their outstanding play by their head coaches during Tuesday night's Senior Bowl press conferences.

South squad coach Mike Shanahan (Redskins) praised Rainey for his ability to play running back, slot receiver and split end. "He picked things up quickly," Shanahan said of the 5-foot-8, 178-pound Rainey, who rushed for 861 yards and caught 31 passes in his senior season at Florida.

Leslie Frazier (Vikings), head coach of the North squad, spoke at length about Polk, a 224-pounder who registered back-to-back 1,400-yard seasons for the Huskies. "You can see that burst that he has," Frazier said. "He could run through some of those 'thud' tackles." Frazier also said that Polk has the potential to be an effective pass protector.

Huh.. Could be a nice pick up later on I guess. He looked great this year. He runs a lot like Daniel Thomas.

Edit: It figures McShay would see it differently than Shanahan and Frazier. Who to trust???

I posted another blurb about him from Leslie Frazier which is the opposite of what McShay says...posted probably the same time you posted your response.

Danny Diggler[/color]]Check out the FA backs.

RR, AF, and Forte aren't going anywhere. Hillis, Tolbert, BJE, M. Bush, and a lot of has beens.

ya I read the Raiders wanna sign Bush long term and they may dangle McFadden out as trade bait to re-coup some of those picks they have traded away...trading DMC I will believe when it happens.

I kind of like CJ2K a little bit when it was rumored that the Titans may let him walk before they had to pay a 7 or 8 million dollar roster bonus in March but i have recently read they are gonna pay the bonus and he will be back in Tennessee cause he came on so strong at the end of the year.

you are right though not a whole lot out there in the FA market for RBs..

What about Marshwan Lynch? I think they could get him for a reasonable price, no? I've always liked that kid.

I don't want them to even bother with drafting a RB this year. Focus on the D and OL in this years draft.

I'd like to get a nice running back but if not a FA, a 4th or 5th round pick.

I read on some draft site that Polk hurt his stock and might need to shed a few pounds. If he falls into the 4th round I'd say it's defintely worth a shot. One of these RBs has gotta turn into a hit for us haha

The Lions had a top 5 offense last year. They'll have one again this year, even if its just Best, Smith, and Leshore. No need to spend any money on a FA when the guards can't block and no one can stop Stafford/Johnson anyways. I'd rather have a #4 WR.

Best is a sneeze away from another consusion and should retire. Who knows what Leshoure will be like and I wouldn't be suprised if he starts the year on the PUP. Smith is a back up. Of what we have our only long term option at RB is coming off an injury that ends careers. RB is our weakest positon.

Love Doug Martin...Not really into taking a running back before round 3 or 4 though....

Polk is being talked about now in Round 2....early round 2

There is a lot more to a good offense than ranking. One of the reasons we gave up so many yards in the last few weeks is because we couldn't keep offenses off the field.

The Lions are explosive...no doubt about it....but a running game balances things....improves a HORRIBLE third down %.....raises time of possession....keeps opponents offenses off the field.....keeps the D fresh...and would limit some of the double and triple teams CJ sees.

I'd take that over a 4th WR any day.

WE HAVE NO MONEY. We could only afford a min-contract signing. Worthless.

We are not adding a RB in FA. Accept it, people.

Let's roll with a guy without a head. Or maybe a guy without an Achilles. Turf monster Smith? I like the sound of this..

They will roll with those three, plus a draft pick or CHEAP free agent.

Check out Demaryius Thomas. Same injury as Leshore, had it last February, was back in less than a year. Leshore can come back next year.

If you want a great running game, build the o-line first. THEN get the RBs.

Teams like NE and GB have pretty good offenses, do they spend big money on RBs? NO grabbed Sproles, but he's a different type of RB. They traded up for Ingram only to find out that Ivory and Thomas run just as well.

And finally, which FA RB do you want? Rice, Forte, and Bush will get tagged. Foster will get tendered and he's a zone blocking RB anyways. Lynch? You wanna spend on a guy who sucked most of his career, then had a good second half of one season in a contract year, and is looking to get paid big? Forget it. Peyton Hillis? You see where I'm going.
