Lions make another trade

Ngata and Bell activated from NFI and PUP. they can practice. Great news

Wright played for the Patriots last year and had 2 TDs against us. Only two receiving Tds of day for Brady.
I thought so.

Funny how fast one can heal with a Z2K in camp :p

I still am. Reports were he was struggling with the 4-3 scheme before the injury, he's lost a lot of practice time.

Meh. Struggling might be reaching a bit. I did read that he was reverting back to his old style a bit. Practice will come and now he's back. It's all about reps now. I'm not worried about our ALL PRO DT at all.

I'd call it struggling based on the reports that used the word "struggling". However, as long as that man eats up the run, I don't care what you call his position.

He wasn't brought here to be a penetrator and get to the QB. Any pressure he provides is bonus material. He was brought here to do what he does best, and take the run out of the middle of the field.

Walker and Reid will get to the QB just fine, and Ziggy will meet them there. Ngata is the guy I'm worried about on that D.

Ngata is a veteran. So I'm not worried about him learning a new scheme or in his willingness and drive to put in the work to do so. He'll be fine. As was stated...he's here to stuff the run...which is sorely needed with Suh and Fairley gone...

Ngata played both nose and 3-4 DE. He's a very versatile player that Baltimore moved all over the line. Everyone worrying about Ngata has no reason to worry.

Except he hasn't played yet. So I'll worry a little.

He's versatile and a very good pass rush and run stuffer. Powerful bull rush. 4-3 DT is easier. Nothing to worry about.

Lions have a slam dunk top 5 defense.

They MIGHT be a top 10 defense...I doubt they repeat having a top 5 D

Ngata can play our scheme in his sleep. Come on people, he is a pro bowl veteran. The guy is a coach on the field. He will dominate and be throwing people around game one.

They are a slam dunk top 5. Loaded with talent and have some depth. The pass rush should be better. And LBs and secondary in year 2 of the sytem, get Tulloch back and upgraded at nickel.

This defense is much better than last year.

If everything goes perfect, yes, there is a possibility that the defense can be as good or better than last year. But that never happens...for any team. Things go wrong, people get hurt. There are several questions with the D line that won't get answered until they start playing in real games. It is more likely that they end up worse than last year vs being better than last year.

Upgraded DT 2-4
Upgraded MLB
Upgrade nickel
Year 2 of system for DEs, OLBs and secondary
Ngata is a really good player
Austin knows how to set up a blitz

Your reasons
we lost Suh and Fairley (who missed half the year anyway) and Mosely (who is not a pass rusher and played next to Suh)
George Johnson came out of nowhere. Tapp, Taylor, Reid or Webster could do that.

What could go wrong
Major secondary issues. If Slay, Mathis and Quin (2 of 3 get hurt), then yeah it's a problem. But it would be for any defense.

We'll see who gets hurt. With normal health, it's a top 5 defense. We'll also see what QBS and WRS/TEs get hurt. Nelson hurt and Gates suspended so far.

But he hasn't played yet. Probably gone for game 1 and who knows after that..

And truth, Ngata himself said it's a hard transition. So apparently he can't play it in in his sleep.
