Lions sign Kicker

YESSS!!!! Schwartz workin ghis youtube connection!

Havard Rugland - K - Lions Lions signed K Havard Rugland.
Rugland is better known as "Kickalicious" after his video of trick kicks went viral on Youtube last year. Rugland, 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds via Norway, has never played American football. A video of his amazing kicks can be seen at the link below. Source: Kickalicious

He's got "the leg", but Jamarcus Russell also had "the arm". I hope they found something in this dude, because a great kicker/punter would REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY help out. It would be nice for other teams to start drives with bad field position for majority of these games.

Signed him to play? or do halftime shows?

Ford commercials. Kicking a ball into the bed of a ford truck while it drives down the freeway in detroit. But the free way is closed due to construction since 1974....so the truck is forced to exit and the ball misses.

Hope he beats out Akers because this could be a lot of fun to watch.

Still better than David Akers.

Who else have the Lions signed off Youtube?

I watched his YouTube video yesterday and the dude definitely appears to have talent. Hopefully it translates into game action. At a minimum, he could be a killer asset for onside kicks and well placed punts. The guy looked crazy accurate with his kicks and had 50yd+ FG range.

Easier to kick 60 with a worn out ball than a new one... keep that in mind folks...

I think he'll be great at corner kicks.

Ahhhhhhhh...ok, i forgot sbout that...lol. But Best wasn't a 'Youtube sensation'. He was a 1st round talent at RB and would have been a top ten pick if not for the injury. He was arguably the best RB in the draft, not some putz who jumps over basketball nets and races horses to get noticed on the internet. Lets not kid ourselves....

Watch it one more time, but this time count how many steps he takes prior to kicking the ball. ;)

I'm open to the idea he is still better than Akers though, or at a minimum is younger and has a potential for being a long term solution solely based on his age relative to Akers.

Maybe they have worked with him or seen him maintain distance and accuracy using NFL steps to the ball. Hard to say what exacly has transpired.

On each of his 50 yard kicks from the tee, he took 2-3 steps, same as any NFL kicker would.

There were many kicks where he was taking far more steps and I distinctly remember one of the knocks on him during tryouts was his footwork and taking too many steps, but that he was working on that.

If he can knock them down with NFL technique, great. I don't have an issue with the signing, sometimes you have to take chances. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. If the Red Wings had nkt gone to Europe, what would they have been like? The coaches think there is some potential, but are willing to take the risk, I have no issue with that. That mentality is what opens potential for Lions to draft Ansah, which I also have no issue with because of the potential. Sometimes you gamble and win, sometimes you lose, but both these gambles have a good chance of working out (should they actually draft ansah), and likely won't take long to see a return if they work hard. I'm certain Havard is going to have extensive coaching to try maximizing his NFL chances.
