Lions sign Kicker

Is it possible they're looking at him as a punter too? Nice aim, decent hangtime. Dude could be a coffin corner expert...

Watch it one more time, but this time count how many steps he takes prior to kicking the ball. ;)

I'm open to the idea he is still better than Akers though, or at a minimum is younger and has a potential for being a long term solution solely based on his age relative to Akers.

Maybe they have worked with him or seen him maintain distance and accuracy using NFL steps to the ball. Hard to say what exacly has transpired.

I actually did pay attention to his steps on the FGs and didn't notice him taking any excessive run up. I think it was mostly a 3-step approach. The only things that really had me wondering with that video were 1) How would he do in pads with defenders? 2) How useful would most of these trick shots really be in a game? 3) How many takes did each one of these tricks actually take? 4) Are we going to need another holder since I believe he kicks with the opposite foot from Akers?

All good questions. I like elrods idea of coffin corner kicks and someone mentioned onside kicks, though I'm not sure how tricky someone can get with those more than what is already attempted but maybe he has an ability to spin a Mick backwards or something, you know, kick it ten yards but when it hits the ground it spins back toward the kicking team like a golf ball...I just think if that was possible it would already be tried, and footballs obviously bounce in a random way unlike golf balls.

Using him as a punter would be an improvement too. Having one guy do both allows for an extra roster spot for a position player which can help guys rest with substitutions.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out, just hoping it proves successful.

I'd be worried about how many takes did this guy need to make his kicks? Did he cut and edit his video often or what..? Did it take 5 tries or 10 tries or was it bam, bam, bam..hard to tell.

I'm not too worried about the tricks taking multiple shots. He had the one take where he made 5 or 6 50 yarders in a row all in one shot.

Pretty impressive that he kicked one through the uprights on a random bounce, even if it took a few attempts, I probably wouldn't be able to do that in a thousand tries.

The one I thought was the most impressive/lucky was the punt immediately followed by a kickoff where the footballs collided in mid-air. It was one of the last ones in the video, IIRC. If you could kick that accurately with any regularity, you'd have to be pretty special. I bet I could try that 100x and never once have it happen.

I read that Akers is a lefty too...

Lions K Havard Rugland 3-year deal, $1.485 mil, $405,000, $495,000, $585,000.
Split salaries No bonus or guaranteed $$?.

You bring him in and he kicks a few in preseason. If he works out and we dont have to pay Akers the bigger money great if not who cares. We lose nothing. Not sure this matters at all.

He's a Norse Viking with the legendary leg strength of Baldr. So my guess is 5000.

He drinks Odin piss for breakfast!

Now if only schwartz could find scoretouchdownilicious and sackquarterbackilicious on youtube.

the power of thors hammer has been injected into his leg!

From Aasgard he hails, to crush the Frost Giants with his powerful leg. Across Bifr?st he runs, using 8-9 mighty steps before kicking the ball all the way to Midgard!
