Maybe it was wrong of me to make this assumption, but I figured that was a rarely selected option for economy cars. I think it's impressive that you can get these things in economy cars and I'm not surprised at all that they'd be buggy when 1st introduced.

...but if the locks don't work anymore...that's a big deal. I hadn't heard that.

Still doesn't explain your anti-American bias.

Whats with your anti-American persona. I am not saying Ford should be #1. They have had their share of problems, but they make a damn fine vehicle. But so do other non american companies. I just try to put my hard earned dollars into american workers pockets. Plus I have made a killing on Ford stock.

Replying to M&B, right?

These stats are purely a popularity contest. People who own these foreign vehicles need to praise their particular auto to justify (in their own mind) that going out of the U.S. to the foreign companies was the correct decision. It's really that simple.

I only drive American, have done that for over 20 years and have had very few problems with any of the vehicles I have owned, with the exception of my first car which was a 1980 chevy citation in 1987, which I owned for 2 years. That was the only lemon of all of them.

totalled a Ford Escort that was a very good car when a drunk driver ran a red light...

owned a chevy cavalier for 6 years, no problems at all, traded it in because I was ready to move up

now own a pontiac g6 and a pontiac torrent, have had both vehicles for about 5 years and no problems whatsoever...don't forsee needing to buy a car anytime soon...drive in comfort, decent gas mileage, got great deal due to stepdad being retired from GM, toyota and honda models were easily 5,000 more since I had no deal for them.

I've never had any problems with stereos, seats, locks, windows, sunroofs or anything like that. One thing i've learned is that if you don't drive like an asshole, then your car lasts as long as you want it to. Yes, i used to drive like an asshole when i had the chevy citation.

if Jeep hadn't stopped making the Cherokee, I would've gotten another of those. Great car/vehicle.

my first car was an '88 Chevy Celebrity, which ran well, but had horrible problems with the paint.

it started to fall apart after my brother got it and I went to college in '98. While I was in college, I had our family's '91 Ford Aerostar, which was pretty hip.

my junior year, we got '00 Cherokee, which I had until 2009, when I traded it for a new Jetta through the cash-for-clunkers dealie.

also get regular oil changes, but I guess not maintaining it could be considered driving like an asshole too.

Actually, no. I have a problem with this whole "pride for Detroit" thing. People have too much pride to admit that Detroit sucks and it's largely because of these American cars and their companies sucking. Yet they still keep buying these POS's because they're "made in Detroit". And they keep enforcing these companies to continue building crappy cars because so many people buy them just because they're made here. Detroit, and Flint, are basically shells of what they used to be - almost single-handedly because of poor business practices the big three had in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Yet, let's buy American because I want the money to go to some rich Ford CEO that pockets millions while screwing blue collar workers!....right. No thank you. I'll take the better product, made in America by the way, that hasn't destroyed towns in the US.

Crackrock! Maybe that's true in Michigan, but most people have a terrible impression of Detroit, no ties to it, and no pride.

Yes, people outside of Detroit. But the people around here are blind, or purposely blind, to how crappy these auto companies have made our area - to their credit they are largely the reason this area got built up so much in the first place.

I got no ties to Detroit, and don't buy american cars because of it.

I understand a lot of foreign brand cars are made/assembled in the good ol' USA. I buy what I like. I agree that the Ford CEO is probably lining his pockets with millions, but bet your ass every other CEO is doing the same.

Also I think RR drive a 2010 Civic colored pink!

There are more people outside of Detroit participating in those surveys than in Detroit.

My feelings are similar. I don't think it's dramatically good or bad for the US when people buy one car vs. another based on ownership if they're both made here, but I can't understand, as an American, wanting the American companies to do poorly.

I have to go with the guy who says if you don't drive like an asshole etcetra. I've owned nothing but American, mostly GM, though I did own a Ford Taurus somewhere in the 90's. I never had any problems with my cars or trucks. Nor has my family. Personally I think they get a bad rap, maybe because Detroit is a shit hole.

LMAO, there's no difference between a chick driving an '02 Civic and a 2010 Civic, its still a chick driving a foreign chick car
