................. passing Civics and Corollas and other chick cars left and right!

Well, that might be going a bit far. Back when I lived in Michigan (and drove a minivan no college guy should be caught dead in) after big snow storms, the sides of the road were always covered with SUVs.

I don't try to brag about being well off - I try and brag about making good decisions. There's a distinct difference.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

According to you, the only decision involved is the decision to wait and have money you didn't earn given to you.

That's the only position you've taken thus far, Richie Rich.

Don't resent someone who made his own, playa!

I didn't say that - I just said money given to you is much better than money earned. If you win $100 that's much more exciting than working for $100.

And to be fair I never brought up any of this stuff, I was more so defending my decisions after I was attacked.

You brought it all on yourself, Richie! From post #1 to waking up first thing this morning still thinking about the thread.

And Red ... I don't drive an SUV -- haven't in 10yrs, though I did have an Isuzu Rodeo back when I was Richie's age and driving up into the mountains on a daily basis to snowboard/mtn bike and never once got stuck, much less ditched it. Must've been learning to drive Up North in all that snow!

But to your last point, Richie .... Your assertion that winning $100 is "more exciting" than working for it .... this is perhaps your most telling post ever. Clearly you've never experienced the deep satisfaction that comes with working hard and getting paid well for it. It is far more rewarding to earn $$ than it is to have it given to you. And with what I got paid today, after taxes, I feel VERY EXCITED!

And don't go counting on that inheritance just yet, Richie. Statistically speaking, the odds of your marriage at your age failing are very high --- you might want to start setting aside some of your massive wealth for the alimony payments you'll be making by the time you're "my age."

I earn money - and it sucks. I'd much rather lounge around all day playing video games than have to get up to work so I can do that only on weekends. The best times I've had in my life, I'd assume you as well, is when you're not working....so you're essentially saying if someone gave you $1 billion dollars you'd keep doing what you're doing because it fulfills you so much? I doubt that. Maybe you would keep a side job to keep busy but I'm guessing for most - 40 hour per week work days would go away.

I highly doubt my marriage will fail. She would have left my annoying self by now if that was going to happen. She's definitely the better half.

So now your argument is that if you won the lottery you'd stop working..?

Yes, I would stop working; or possibly I'd give the athletic department some donation so they'd allow me to do some small job with the football team....like the water bottle guy at the games that just hands the players water. Most people definitely wouldn't continue doing what they're doing.

I once had to stop working for 4 months because I got Ill. Playing video games and lounging around isn't all its cracked up to be. Not for huge periods of time, maybe a few days. It'll drive you crazy.

But if you weren't sick and you had a billion dollars - my bet is that you wouldn't necessarily always be lounging around the house.

But the main point is that American cars suck and if you drive an entry level Japanese model, you're smarter, come from money and will be able to take vacations in your mid-thirties.

Have I missed anything?

basically, but....

I already take vacations. I went to Mexico this summer and I'm going to Florida in February, and finishing it up with California in the spring.

Shouldn't you be putting that money towards your mortgage?

No, I feel comfortable in spending it. That's kinda the point. Spend less money on a car, which does the same thing, so that I can go on nice vacations. buy nice things and enjoy myself.

Man, I've got 2 Civics in my garage, and I don't make very much money. Guess I'm a sad panda.

No, it means you're better than someone with two American cars in his garage.

Very true. Unfortunately the same applies to you and your non-American cars.

Hardly. There is no relative value proposition between a survey to assess "reliability" of an automobile and personal self-worth. To this point, you're the only one making that assertion.

You started this thread specifically to antagonize American Auto-types and people who feel strongly about this issue of "American vs Honda" which you continually raise. When you got a few replies here and there other than mine fucking with you, you did what you always do and change your "original premise."

Richie ....
