It's his first year, and he obviously has a long way to go. But you don't bring a guy in KNOWING he's never done the job, and not let him learn on his feet.

You have a shitload of meetings with him. You tell him you want a revised playbook before the draft. You take precautions to protect your team... but you don't fire him.

You believed in this guy enough to give him a shot, and now you have to let him take the pains and bruises and try to bounce back.

if you gave me the job at the start of the year.....I could guarantee you id improve by next year. That doesn't mean id be any good just because I was improving!!!! He turned one of the better offenses in the league into a heaping pile of garbage. Meanwhile Linehan is getting praise all over every sports channel today saying how hes Romos savior.

Just cause he improves next year....doesn't mean he will be any good. Mayhew/Caldwell got this one wrong and the sooner you move on the better. The ingame coaching is even worse than the initial gameplan. NE game for example...you saw a conscious effort to develop plays for certain players. Then poof....all that went away by the middle of the first quarter. If you cant adjust in this league...you are toast. Lions will have no chance with him leading our offense.

The problem is you have to replace him. The Lions have nobody on the roster that can play the position and they haven't drafted anybody to develop. Another black eye for Mayew. I think they need to draft a QB early this season. Give Matt next year and hopefully in 2016 the new guy is ready.

Change elite years to year. One great year followed by 3 shitty seasons. I don't see it as "the offense has the talent to be great.."

We have a C who never was any good, a LG that is getting older and forgot how to play. Great WR who's older ad hurt more than ever, a running game that hasn't done shit in years, two top 20 TE's who are basically useless and the QB who is closer to bottom third than elite.

So what's so talented about this team..?

Statistically, Stafford was probably in the 5-6 range that year. 5th in comp%, 13th in yds/a; 5th in rating.

In 1995 Mitchell was 5th in QB rating; 6th in YPA, 13th in comp %

1995 Mitchell is close to 2011 Stafford

20 in Philadelphia away ..only 8 points were from Matt and the offense.
