Maggs annoucing his retirement Sunday

I'm so happy for Maggs that he is retiring as a Tiger. It's kinda nice to see him in a way stick it to his old team the White Sox. His undeniably amazing 2007 season sticks out where he hit .363 and won the AL batting title to go along with 139 RBI. He really had a tremendous career, with a .309 BA over 15 seasons. He was never the greatest outfielder, but it's hard to root against such a nice guy. Congrats to you Maggs, you helped restore pride for a lot of Tigers fans, thanks for a all the great memories!!

I'm sure similar things can be said for several players along the way, but if Maggs could have stayed healthy through his entire career, I believe he would have gone down as one of the best to ever play the game. He was not only a great average hitter (like we saw here), he hit for power (38HR in '02) and stole bases (25 in '01). As it is, he's still going down as one of the better hitters of this generation, and he's got a shot at going into the HOF at some point (hopefully as a Tiger, even though he played one more year with Chicago and had more power and speed while he was there).

Yes, I'm glad he is retiring as a Tiger. Obviously, Pudge was going to retire a Ranger - great career there but its nice seeing Maggs end as a Tiger.

Unfortunately, if Maggs had stayed healthy, I'm not sure he ever would've become a Tiger. The Sox let him go because of the knee and the money he wanted, no knee injuries and I'm sure the Sox would've kept him.

I completely agree. He would have been a huge Tiger killer instead of someone who brought us back to life.

I liked the quote about hitting, don't try to do to much, because when you do, you won't do much. so true.
