Michigan vs Alabama discussion thread

Yeah. I mean, you have to figure that a lot of those stats were attained with Tua, right?
Jones threw for 335 yds and 4 TDs at Auburn. He's not Tua, but he's not a bum by any means.

scratching the surface a little bit shows those stats aren't telling the whole story. Vs. the Sagarin top 10:

uofm lost by a combined 50 points (21 at Wisco and 29 vs. OSU)
bama lost by 8 (5 vs. LSU and 3 at Auburn).

I don't think both teams being 0-2 against the Sagarin top 10 is any indication that the game should be close.

also, if alabama has the 54th toughest schedule vs. LSU having the 10th, then there's so little difference between 10 and 54 that the stat is basically worthless at least in that case. But it's probably not very useful in more - according to sagarin, Oregon's schedule is 18 spots higher than Alabama's. The second best conference record in Oregon's division is 4-5 and there are only 2 other teams that have a winning record overall. Oregon played Auburn in nonconf play (a home loss), but it's not like bama didn't also play them.

I have already said that I think michigan is going to get blown out. I also think that OSU is going to win the next 2 games by 20 points and have the most dominant season in history to prove to me, once and for all, that there is no God.

I'm not sure what those rankings use to determine SOS, but I also think that there are imperfections in any computer ranking. Not the least of which is the fact that they don't usually consider the trends in a team's performance. It would be stupid to place as much weight on Michigan's results against Army as it is to judge this current Alabama team that is missing 3 first round draft picks.

They also don't take into consideration the impact each individual player that isn't participating had on his team's success. At least I don't think they do. If they do I feel bad for the guy that's got to grade every player on Rice's team each week so that we can adequately assess how much credit to give Texas for beating Rice so that we know how much credit to give to LSU for beating Texas in week 2, then factor in how each of the 130 (or however many there are) teams were playing in regards to their average in a given week to extrapolate that performance metric across multiple head to head match ups throuout the season so we can use the transitive properties of said match ups to determine the true strength of each team's schedule so that we don't even have to see the games to determine who will win and that MSU sucks.

Yeah, all the computer analyses, etc. can't take into account how a team and individual players are going to feel at the actual time they take the field to play the game. It's why they actually play the games.

MSU fan bringing his pedantic, semantic bullshit argument about how Michigan is shitty and is going to get their asses beat vs Alabama

First of all, perspective!! It's like the fat guy giving fitness advice or the bald guy trying to tell me when it's time to get a haircut or that he doesn't like my hairstyle.

2nd of all, we all pretty much recognize that Michigan is going to get their asses beat.

I think he's fat & bald

it's neither pedantic or semantic, you moron. try picking up a dictionary before using what you think are big words. Also, I never said uofm was shitty, nor was my post a dig at uofm in any way.

This is the same moronic argument idiots like Monkey King used to make on the ESPN boards "the i know more about football because my team is better than yours." its shockingly stupid but not at all surprising that you think it makes sense. By the way, where are you hanging out that you have other guys randomly commenting on your hairstyle?

2nd of all, we all pretty much recognize that Michigan is going to get their asses beat.

yep, then you posted some stats from sagarin which you thought contradicted those pedictions. i merely added a little context to show why your initial thought was the right one. Of course when morons see that im a Spartan fan they often assume im making fun of their program, rather than just making a point about how misleading those stats are and throw a tantrum like lttle babies. Now go get a haircut moron.

I go to work...

There are people there

duh!

Never said that you were an idiot, because Michigan beat MSU. You are an idiot for a lot of other reasons. I said that as an MSU fan, you shouldn't rip on Michigan for being in a position to lose to Alabama. You shouldn't even be here. No one likes you. Michigan isn't playing MSU this week. Nobody gives a shit about what you post.

I didn't say that your post was necessarily pedantic or semantic, but a lot of your posts are.

No one asked you to do a deep dive into what the numbers might mean. Of course, the numbers might mean other things OR they might not. Wow! That's some real genius level stuff. Maybe they take margin of victory into account? Maybe it's not all based on W's and L's. Nah...Just attack attack and attack. You see Hungry, so you attack.

I find it hilarious that my stalker has such a thing for me. Others responded to his stupid post about what he thinks the Sagarin numbers might mean, too, but he only attacks Hungry.

You're hilarious! You know I just laugh at you, right?

Here, I'll save the moron (spartanmack) the trouble of posting his opinion since we all know it, already and it really is only his uninformed opinion. He really isn't smarter than anyone.

Drrrr Michigan's losses are worse than Alabama's losses, cause Michigan got their asses kicked by Wisconsin and Ohio State and Alabama had close losses to Auburn and LSU

No shit! Thanks, Captain Obvious. Michigan had a close loss to Penn State and beat the shit out of ND

drrrr, yeah but all of Michigan's points in the PSU game were in garbage time, because that game was over midway through the 2nd quarter. Michigan's 21 points are all garbage points after PSU relaxed midway through the 2nd quarter. Forget the fact that Michigan almost scored another garbage td that would have tied the game, That game was a total beatdown that was in no way as close as the final score indicated. The ND game? ND is totally overrated and that win and margin of victory means nothing!!

Thanks, Mack, you're so smart. Whatever would we do without your wisdom and your jaded pro-MSU, anti-Michigan bias?

Michigan isn't even better off than MSU. I mean, their seasons were basically the same. Neither is playing for a title, so it's all meaningless. Doesn't matter if MSU is playing on Dec 27th and Michigan is playing Jan 1st. Aside from the play-offs, the bowl games all mean the same thing, which is nothing!!

Thanks, mack, you're so smart!!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program where Michigan fans on the Michigan board talk about their upcoming bowl game against Alabama

Five consecutive posts is not a great look, Hungry. Just sayin?.

tough day out on the cell block? were the prisoners especially mean when teasing you about your hairstyle today? you're not only a moron, you're fucking weird.

and for the record, i dont hate uofm and will be cheering for them despite the fact that i think they're going to get rolled.
