I know I am going to sound sore since Booker went to Kentucky, but is the NCAA ever going to do anything about Calipari? I get that the top teams generally get the best players, North Carolina and Duke haven't ever been lacking recruiting in the time I've followed college bb. That said, what Calipari is doing is just unheard of. Nobody is THAT good. This on top of recruiting infractions he's made at every other stop along the way.

there was the story about Anthony Davis getting 200k to go to UK but that got pulled from the sun times. I think with a lot of these kids, they don't get paid, UK isn't breaking the rules but just taking advantage of the poor 1yr requirements. he gets kids that are on the way to the NBA and need a 1yr internship. these kids get to live in a MTV cribs dorm that should be illegal but it just bends the rules, doesn't break them. they don't attempt to make progress towards the degree they will never get, they take easy classes for 1 semester and down't show up for the second, it doesn't matter, they're going to be rich anyway.

Again, I do understand that top teams are going to get top recruits more often anyway. I don't think that every single kid Cal has gotten has been on a shady deal. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it's at least one kid a year. That doesn't seem like a lot, but suddenly transfer John Wall or Anthony Davis or Julius Randle or Derrick Rose (who actually has documented violations) and Kentucky is suddenly a lot more like North Carolina than the unstoppable juggernaut they are now.

I don't know if he breaks any rules, but if they're going to be millionaires in a year anyway, that's probably incentive enough to head to UK. It's tough to have to land that kind of recruiting haul every single year and always replace almost your entire starting lineup, but I guess it's the way Cal has chosen to build the program. Duke or Kansas probably have it better. They have one and dones here and there but are usually led by NBA level sophomores and juniors during the times when they are really good and the one and dones supplement their lineup.

We'll see how it works out for them on the court. The John Wall/Cousins team was pretty good but they were beatable and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn when West Virginia took them out. The next team made the Final Four, but only earned a 4 seed during the season. Last year's team was a disaster and they still lost 2 kids after 1 season to the NBA. Their national title team had great talent but also team first guys in MKG and Davis and also 3 solid veterans to make it all work. We'll see how their current group meshes on the court.

No a rough day at all, he stopped recruiting all 3 of those guys a while back.

I don't expect the team to be awful next year or the year after, but the recruiting trail has been terrible last year and this year. Izzo is too good for a team to be awful, even if the best player is Nairn. That said, maybe Izzo needs some better assistants. It shouldn't be this hard for a perennial championship contender to land a few top 50 players.

I don't think it is any one person's fault. Izzo should be pushing any area that tends to produce high caliber players. But lack of top end recruiting has been a recurring issue. There are assistants out there that are known almost exclusively for their recruiting prowess. I'm just saying it might be time to invest in that kind of assistant.

You can't fault him for going after the talent that was there in Chicago, but it definitely bit him in the butt. Chicago kids often not only spurn MSU, but the Big Ten in general and end up at places like KU, UK, Memphis and any number of other places. The State of Michigan being down in high school of late hasn't helped. He has more competition now in his other strong areas of Ohio and Indiana with IU coming back and OSU remaining a player.

Still it seems inconceivable that he'd produce a team next year or the year after that is terrible. It will depend on some guys developing and showing some things that we haven't seen before and Valentine taking a huge step up.

Ive been baffled by this for years. We have up until the last few years picked up a Blue Chip here and there as well as some good 3/4 star guys that stay a full tenure. How MSU can be one of the top 3 programs the last 15 years and big time players not putting us automatically on their top 5 list is baffling!! I dont know if you can pin the issue on one particular person or thing but there is no excuse for this program not to lure top players without compromise. Incredibly weak and frustrating.

We need a NC this year because the next 3 years look filthy. I wonder if Izzo will call it quits in the next few years. I dont see how we make the tourney next year unless Harris is hurt and cant jump to the NBA, even then im not sure it would matter. I knew this would happen at some point...

Agree, I suppose thats what can happen if recruiting outside the midwest isnt possible. I was hoping Chris Allen would have started a new trend but it didnt happen.

he had local ties with his aunt and uncle living in Lansing. we have Tum Tum coming in from Kansas but that's not exactly a hoops hotbed. hopefully we can build a little pipeline with findaly prep in nevada starting with schilling
