MSU hires Mel Tucker

UK "essentially" matched MSU's offer to Vince Marrow, but Marrow has told people he's still undecided. The longer he waits the better for us.

I don?t know why anyone would stay at Kentucky esp to work for a clown like Mark Stoops. As challenging as it is being in the same state as another, bigger B1G program, it has to be way, way worse being at lower tier SEC program. Especially in a state not known for having a lot of football talent where you?re also not even the biggest program at your own school.

Marrow has known Stoops a long time. He's got a pretty good gig there. But Tucker and Marrow are said to be really close friends, we'll see what wins out. I'd say him not deciding right away helps us, means he's seriously considering a jump. But it's 50-50 at best IMO.

It's not a must get for MSU, but it'd be a really nice to have and would really be a recruiting boon.

It also means he is seriously considering staying.

Now that the dust has settled a little, I still like Tucker’s resume but I’m really disappointed by the price tag and for what is known about it, the process. We are essentially taking a coordinator - a successful one that checks a lot of boxes but still unknown as a HC and paying him more on day 1 than the most successful coach in school history who just retired - it’s not like we are comparing Tuckers contract to Biggie Munn’s. I get that timing was tough but that’s an argument for going the interim route, not hitting the panic button and just throwing shit tons of cash at the problem. Clearly these guys are all overpaid but this move I think sets a bad precedent. I’m thoroughly unimpressed with this Beekman guy and if I was a Michigan taxpayer I’d also be pretty pissed about it.

Same thing I said yesterday. Gave him way too much money with little track record as a HC.

4th highest paid coach in the conference, that will seem like a bargain in 3 or 4 years. The Big Ten is flush with cash, you're going to see salaries skyrocket.

Football coach salaries are not funded by taxpayers, at all.

Official contract has been released, 6 years $33 Million.

Wasn’t very successful in the PAC-12 South, hard to imagine how he’ll fare in the BTN East.

Tucker met with the former staff today. No one is being kept on. Clean break was best.

I can?t judge the guy off of 1 season at Colorado. Given the situation we were in where Bielema and Mike Tressel were much discussed this is as good as we could have hoped for I believe.

Well he does have as many B1G Championships as Harbaugh already.

Fixed it - no need for the preposition, these guys are all way over paid.

That's the problem though. I get that we're going to see more of this and it's going to keep going up but these salaries and the game itself are getting ridiculous.

and a better record (0-0) against OSU. which reminds me of a fun fact that I find rather amusing even though uofm is my second favorite team - Urban Meyer has a better record (1-0) against Ohio State than Jim Harbaugh does.

Tucker is serious about landing Vince Marrow, he's upped the MSU offer to him to over $1 Million and how Kentucky insiders are predicting Marrow to MSU.

That's a lot of money for a recruiting coordinator, TE coach, Assistant HC. But Tucker wants to make a big splash in recruiting right away and Marrow could be a big key to that. UK's DBs coach also in play, he's the guy who has pulled several 4 stars out of Detroit in recent classes.

I wonder if MSU drives up the price on Marrow and UK matches that they'll then be able to pull the other guy more easily.

Sounds like although he let them all go yesterday, Tucker has decided to hire Mike a Tressel back as his LB coach. Tressel was a great LB coach.

Marrow is staying at Kentucky

Seems like a mistake to me - and one that hurts us as well. He can’t be doing this to make a career at Kentucky and I have to think MSU is a better stepping stone than working for a moron like Stoops at a school where your team plays second fiddle to the basketball team - they’re the Indiana of the SEC.

I guess money can’t buy you happiness or the coaching staff of your dreams. I hope we don’t blow $6mm on a bunch of Jim Bollmans
