MSU hires Mel Tucker

Seems like a mistake to me - and one that hurts us as well. He can?t be doing this to make a career at Kentucky and I have to think MSU is a better stepping stone than working for a moron like Stoops at a school where your team plays second fiddle to the basketball team - they?re the Indiana of the SEC.

I guess money can?t buy you happiness or the coaching staff of your dreams. I hope we don?t blow $6mm on a bunch of Jim Bollmans

I've said Clinkscale is the guy I'd be after from the start. That's the guy that's pulling top recruits from our own backyard. Anybody that can get the #1 recruit in Michigan to leave to Kentucky is obviously an amazing recruiter. Not to mention hes blocked by Marrow as lead there and we'd probably get him much cheaper.

I believe we'll be fine in ohio no matter who we hire, losing in state players to Kentucky, Purdue, NW etc is what needs to end.

Tucker is bringing OL coach Chris Kapilovic with him from Colorado. This is huge, he's one of the best Offensive Line coaches in the country and he's a fantastic recruiter. His lines at North Carolina were dominant.

Jay Johnson also coming to MSU with Tucker. Ran some explosive offenses in the past.

Still only 3 assistants announced, Kap, Tressel, and Burton. Jay Johnson might be coming, but not as the OC, he'd be QB and pass game coordinator.

Still a lot of names being thrown around for the coordinator positions. Should shake out here before the end of the week.

Vince Marrow turned down $1.2mm/yr for 4 years to make $.9mm for 3 years at Kentucky. The KY deal includes incentives for things like bowl games, the SEC champ game and the college football playoff - basically incentives he'll mostly never see at Kentucky.

I wonder if Clinkscale is still on the table and if so, did making such a massive public offer to Marrow drive up his price?

This guy is available, in case you need a coach who can recruit high school students who claim they just think Hitler was a great leader, even though they don't condone everything he did.

?This is probably not going to get a good review but I?m going to say Hitler? no shit Sherlock

Former MSU WR Courtney Hawkins named WR coach. I believe he was the head coach and athletic director for a Flint HS.

One of the most respected coaches in the state. This is a smart hire that will make a big recruiting impact.

Still waiting on the DC and probably OC.

Why would Johnson take a step back from his current job?

$$$

But he was named today officially as OC and QB Coach. 5 coaches officially named now. Kap, Johnson, Tressell, Hawkins, and Burton.

Rumored to be being considered for the staff is Harlon Barnett as DB coach.

Also, smoke to the rumors that Wisconsin WR coach Ted Gilmore is coming to be TE coach and passing game coordinator. Guy is a great coach and recruiter, love that hire if it happens.

Still waiting on DC, hope it's the guy from UGA.

So far, all of the coaches in the mix appear to be strong recruiters, going to be a big difference overall from the zero in recruiting we got for Bollman and Warner.

Another player from my era - back when MSU used to get great receivers pretty regularly. He overlapped with Andre ?Bad Moon? Rison for 2 years.

Sedrick Irvin to RB coach. Really plugged in to the Miami recruiting scene. This staff was oit together to recruit really well.

He is also Sedrick Irvin Jr?s dad. Jr is in the 2nd half of his 9th grade year and already has offers from Florida, Georgia, Miami and 5 other schools.
