MSU vs. OSU

We are blowing decent teams out now game after game. Take away 1 half vs Purdue and no one is staying close. Team didn't play all that well tonight, but shot lights out, OSU had the best FG% defense in the conference, we shot 55% from the field on them.

Losing 3 games by 3 points total really hurts. If Valentine doesnt get hurt were first or tied for first. I knew right when he went down the B10 crown wont be going to us. :argh:

Respert is the best shooter in MSU history.....Forbes is 2nd.....but there is a wide gap between the two.
I don't know if the gap is that big. Everyone in the building knew each of them was looking to shoot the 3 each time they touched the ball and they both played with NBA point guards. Valentine is as dynamic of a player we've seen at msu but snow had a long NBA career as a pass first guy, there were more shots for Respert vs Forbes

Hes up there but I never saw him shoot 3's. I missed him by a few years.

nobody did - he never had a 3 point line in college. I think it was when I was in college (end of Steve Smith era, beginning of Respert), some analyst looked at Skiles' highest point game and said that only considering obvious 3s, he would have scored 9 or 10 more points. I forget the numbers but it was something ridiculous like that - and again they didn't even count close ones. He still holds the Spartan single season scoring record - pretty remarkable considering the 3 point line came about 2 seasons after he left and has been around for 31 years.

There were massive differences in their games......but Respert shot a higher % while being the focal point of the D and could create his own shot.

Forbes is a great shooter.....I'm not arguing that at all.....but his shots are created for him and he is not the focal point of the D.

Respert took shot after shot from anywhere on the floor.....with guys in his face.....when everyone in the building knew he was going to shoot it. Forbes takes open 3's....never creates his own shot....and passes every time there is a defender near.

Respert was a better shooter.

Will Forbes get a look from the NBA?

Anyone that can shoot like that will get a look. However.....he is an undersized shooting guard (6'3") with no handle and he isn't a good defender......no matter how many times he slaps the floor. I can see him in the D league or as a 12th man in the NBA...but not as a regular contributor.

His overall game is D league caliber. But the kid can shoot it with anyone.

I never understood why people wanted to play in the D-league. Go overseas where you can make millions tax free. See the world while you're at it.

And he's not 6-3, will measure out a couple inches shorter.

Doesn't have the handle. If he was the same size and good off the dribble he'd be a poor man's step curry. He's a tweener, he doesn't have the handle to run the point and isn't big enough to guard the 2

The team is going to need more out of Davis than what they got last night if they plan to make a deep run. There's been plenty of games where his overall PT being a bit on the lower side was puzzling. Last night was not one of them. He was awful, but thankfully Costello picked it up in the second half and they got contributions from Schilling and Clark.

not sure what his problem was. he looked great in the post in a few games, not just put backs. he looked good against wisconsin as well but he couldn't do much last night and looked really bad on his misses

I wouldn't be shocked if his confidence is shaken. Probably playing timid because he's afraid he'll get pulled if he makes a mistake.

And he can't create his own shot. Love Forbes, just don't see an NBA player.

I don't think he looked good against wisco - as I was watching last night I was thinking this is two games in a row he looks kind of lost and unsure about what he should be doing.

The work in the post wasn't good, but defense I think was more an issue. OSU had guys running free in the paint much of the first half, though it sounded like Izzo was just as unhappy with Costello about that.

9 boards and 3 blocks, helped to hold Nigel Hayes to 5pts. He played well, he wasn't posting up and hasn't for a while, more of a garbage man on offense now. He had been looking good with that little hook shot but haven't seen that in a while.

yeah, the 3 blocks is a good stat but 9 boards for a guy his size is OK, he should get at least 6 boards in his sleep - when coupled with 6 points in 29 minutes plus a handful of mistakes and pockets of lazy play, I wouldn't say he played well.

Ice Cube once fucked around and got a triple double.

Doesn't mean he played well!
