Next GM and Head Coach

Is everyone on the staff a former player? Curious to see how this works out. I will say that I don't envision the players giving up on this staff, there may be deficiencies elsewhere but that's one less thing I'm worried about.

I don?t think David Fipp is, but so far he might be the only one.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Lions will hire Mark Brunell as QBs coach.
Brunell was also reportedly drawing interest from the Jaguars. The 50-year-old has never served as a coach, spending some of the first 10 years of his retirement working in media, where he famously cried on ESPN over Tom Brady's alleged role in "Deflategate." That kind of passion will play on Dan Campbell's fired-up coaching staff. The initial problem for Brunell is that he doesn't know which quarterback he will be coaching with Matthew Stafford likely on the way out. Brunell will have 18 years of playing experience to draw on, but the game has changed a lot during his decade away.

Mark Brunell doesn?t really do anything for me. Either way, but Dan Campbell has definitely proven he either has a lot of respect in this league or can make one hell of a pitch to these coaches. How many guys have we hired have turned down offers with other teams to join a team that is worse off. Now obviously I don?t know if Jacksonville offered him the job, but assuming they did for him to turn down a job with his former team and the chance to work with Trevor Lawrence is saying something. He?s picking the Lions when he knows he won?t have stafford to work with.

All played together or on the same coaching staff previously. Bill Parcells coaching tree is the attempt this time

Could be wrong, but not everybody. Fraley who they kept, Duce Staley, David Fipp, and Mark Brunelldon't have Parcells connections as far as I know.

Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn played for Parcells. Anthony Lynn too. They are all Parcell guys

NFL just hires people that know on staffs and like to work with. Brunell and Campbell together on same team

Duce wasn't. All Eagles.

Glad the GM is different

I know Campbell and both Coordinators were, but that is it. I checked where would Campbell and Brunell overlapped?

Brunell played for Green Bay, Jacksonville, Washington, New Orleans, and the Jets.

Dan Campbell played for the Giants, Cowboys, and Lions.

Neither ever played on the same team and Brunell never went into coaching at the NFL level until now.

Anthony Lynn was the running back coach of the Jets when Brunell was there

Hope this doesn't mean a trade for Tua with the lefty connections

The Bill Parcels coaching tree is like 7 degrees of Keven Bacon...everybody is connected to him

Kelvin Sheppard will be OLB coach. DeLeone will be inside LB coach

Will be interesting if we do full 3-4 here based on that

Mark Brunell is the latest ex-player to join Dan Campbell's Detroit Lions staff, and two more names I’ve heard the Lions have talked to about jobs: Hines Ward and Seth Ryan (Rex’s son) https://freep.com/story/sports/nfl/...s-mark-brunell-quarterbacks-coach/4302207001/ via
@freep

I loved Hines Ward as a player. Obviously that doesn't always translate to coaching, but I honestly would love that hire. That guy just did things the right way and fought tooth and nail for those Pittsburgh teams. I know even if he gets hired its just a WR coach, but I would enjoy having him on the staff.

And if we let 5 of our top 6 WR's walk.....he instantly becomes our #3 option behind Quintez and Hock. YES!!

With this new rule couldnt teams just say we didnt want to hire bienemy because we dont want to give KC anymore draft picks lol?

I think the teams promoting the black coach/front office person should get the compensation...this makes no sense.

Bienemy has interviewed for more than 10 openings over the last 2 years without getting a job. There are people out there that will make that a racial issue. I don't think it is. He has 2 things that seem to be going against him.....

1. Apparently he isn't interviewing well. Something he is saying isn't sitting well with the people he's interviewing with. Maybe the staff he would assemble is crap. Maybe he wants more power than teams are willing to give a 1st time HC.

2. Mahomes is the QB in KC....and Reid in the HC. Like it or not, people arent going to give you much credit when you have those 2 guys. If he wants to prove himself.....make a lateral move and take an OC job somewhere other than KC,

Its Gaseeque for sure. He gets promoted because Peyton Manning ran his offense....then he proceeds to ruin 2 organizations lol.

1. We know people don?t land jobs because they interview well. The interview is the most overrated part of the hiring process. Did Patricia land the job because he ?interviewed? well? How about Campbell, he was basically hired before his in person interview.

2. Working under a Super Bowl winning coach and w Mahomes is a positive thing, not a negative.

Sure. And I might or might not disagree but for OC to become coach they probably like to see his play calling but he doesn't do that. That's all Reid. On the other hand, many young OC and DC who become HC don't call plays anyway.

But how much is he a part it outside of working with players? Another area he wouldn't be doing as a HC.

And why are they forcing his name down everyone's throat to hire him?

I usually don't pay attention to coaching hires/staffs, but it sure seems like they are hiring a lot of coaches. ILB coaches, OLB coaches, assistants to assistants...is the head coach just hiring everyone he knows?

I'm expecting an OL coach/Assistant to the WR coach/Assistant to the HC/Backup to the Assistant GM/Vice President of Operations.. filled by one guy.

I just hope they have one guy, Holmes - who decides on trades, free agents and draft picks.

I don't know why he's still here but imo it seems like Rod Wood will get final say on everything.
