while i agree overall, johnson wasnt ever really out there because he accepted arbitration from the jays. maybe if we'd made a hard enough push to convince him otherwise we could have gotten him (wish we would have).

This, Kelly Johnson was not available. I'm sure plenty of teams called his agent and offered money, he choose to stay with Toronto.

That's not enough to get McCutchen's hair, let alone the player.

Then get someone else. Remember, Ilitch want's to win now  Just because we didn't see a name out doesn't mean its not possible. Everyone, everyone thought Raburn at 2nd was a bad idea.

Every year its the same, we all yap about Raburn being bad then he has a nice 2nd half and come off-season we all forget and we do it over and over.

I get that the 2B upgrades weren't plentiful so why are they now on June 5?

"If the spring training Raburn had showed up, it would not be an issue." - why? Its an issue most of the time, slow starts.

I didn't say June 5th.

But at some point we're going to make a midseason trade, just like most years, and it just depends on the level of player we try to land who gets sent.

Who Mitch? go look at the list of available second basemen.

Johnson, Cano, and Philips were staying put, that left guys like Barmes, Carroll, Rhymes, etc.

We had Santiago, Raburn and Inge, I'm sure we never expected it to be a great position, just not as bad as it's been.

And again I'll point out, second base is not hurting us anywhere near as bad as corner OF and bullpen have.

Boesch and Young were expected to score and drive in runs, and they haven't, forget second base....it was never expected to be that big of a contributor.

I rather get a guy in the off season and if he doesn't pan out we have another chance during mid-season.

And whether Kelly Johnson or whoever was available or not, someone has to be better than .150. The Tigers have sent down more vets to AAA the past few years to get their head on straight, its crazy.

Forget OF in this discussion, but at 2B - Raburn, Inge and Santiago has never made me feel good about 2B. No was was happy or even okay about, what makes those 3 intriguing? That Raburn might go off second half?

They could have did something.

And for the record the only reason Raburn at second was considered a bad idea was on defense.

If he had hit his pre-2012 career avg. and OPS he's have been considered good offensively for a 2B.

You're hindsighting Mitch.

Nobody in the offseason knew anyone would only hit .150, come on.....you're acting like we should have seen into the future.

Wrong. He was a 2nd half guy or a first half guy that hit bad in the 2nd half or just bad May's. However you see it, Raburn was not a FT 2B that was worth keeping and using as a 2B.

His defense is more than just lack of errors. His range is just atrocious.

Why forget OF, this discussion was about why Castellanos might get traded, you cant just assume it will be for a 2B only.

What did he hit last year 1st half? It wasn't much better. I can't believe no one thought he might hit worse.

So why didn't we replace Peralta too?

You're arguing in circles Mitch.

This has nothing to do about Peralta. He's a SS, not very good but that's his position. Raburn is a OF and shouldn't be at 2nd.

I have a brick with "Mitch" written on it, I usually have to hit myself in the head with it a few times to realize I should just stop arguing with him.

I'm starting to think, well honestly for awhile now - that you haven't a clue.
